 Oak Grove Foundation Annual Campaign
What is the foundation? The Foundation is comprised of Oak Grove parents, teachers and administrators committed to a long term vision of academic excellence at Oak Grove by pursuing funding from a variety of sources from donations to grants. This year, the Foundation has sponsored and completed the development of a 3 1/2 year strategic plan for Oak Grove as well as funded an Instructional Technology Coach to directly assist our teachers use of technology when implementing curriculum. We are actively pursuing options to bring language instruction to Oak Grove, provide funding to innovative academic and cultural projects, and provide for ongoing professional developments for our outstanding teaching staff.

Next Friday kicks off The Oak Grove Foundation's Annual Campaign and Classroom Challenge. Each of our families at Oak Grove is unique and special, and only they can determine what amount of a donation they are able to make. All donation amounts are confidential and only donors' names will be recognized in the 2011 Annual Report, placed in 3 levels of giving, $1-$499, $500-$999, and $1000+, according to the amount of their gift. Participation levels will be determined by the gifts received during the campaign which will run through Dec. 2nd.
The classroom challenge is based on participation. Families with more than one child at Oak Grove will have their donation credited to all the classes their children are in.
- Each class that has 50% of their registered students' families donate to the campaign will have their teacher rewarded with $100 to be spent in the classroom.
- Any class in which 100% of the students' families give to the campaign will earn $250 to be spent in the classroom.
The Oak Grove Foundation is a 501c-3 charitable organization, eligible to receive United Way Funds, as well as corporate matches. Please inquire with your employer. Once you are ready to donate, you may send in a check made out to the Oak Grove Foundation (through your child's Communicator folder or turn it in directly to the front office) or visit our website at www.OakGroveFoundation.org to donate online with PayPal.
Thank you in advance for your consideration, and feel free to contact Stacy Keadey at stacykeadey@bellsouth.net with any questions/concerns |

 Friday Afternoon Lockdown Drill
On Friday afternoon at approximately 2:20pm, a parent called Oak Grove to report that several police cars were responding to an "armed robbery" on S. Akin Drive, behind Oak Grove Elementary. I decided to make the announcement that were having a lockdown drill and directed all students to report to their homerooms and for teachers to lock their doors. We asked all parents to sit in the cafeteria. We secured the building by closing and locking all the doors. I called my supervisor who directed me to continue in lockdown until I had more information from police. Within 5 to 10 minutes, I received the information from police that it was okay to dismiss students as usual, that we were "all-clear." At that point, an announcement was made to that effect and dismissal went forward without incident.
I also made the decision to ask the Track Club participants to hold their club activities on school grounds, rather than running their usual route which includes S. Akin Dr. Track Club was held and dismissed without incident.
I am very proud of the way that the teachers and students at Oak Grove handled today's situation. Everyone remained calm, followed directions, and worked together to ensure the safety of the building and it's occupants and visitors. I also appreciate the cooperation of visitors, parents, and volunteers who helped keep the situation under control and calm.
At this time, I do not have facts to share regarding the incident that occurred prompting the lockdown and therefore will not speculate on it.
Thank you everyone for your cooperation and concern today.
Sincerely,
Dr. Neely, Principal
