ITBS dates are:
1st Grade - Oct. 24, 25,26, 27, and 31, Nov. 1, 2. 3rd and 5th - Oct. 24, 25,26, 27, and 31, Nov. 1
No DEAR reading will take place on testing days.

 Gently Used Clothing Needed
The Clinic is in desperate need of gently used clothing. Pants, shorts, and undergarments for both boys and girls in a wide variety of sizes are needed. Please drop your donations off at the office or at the clinic.

 Book Donations Needed
The 5th Grade students are collecting used or new children's books to sell at the Fall Festival. If you have any children's books you would like to donate, leave them in the boxes marked on the stage beginning on Monday.

 National Bus Driver Appreciation Day - Oct. 17th
Show your bus driver that you appreciate them on October 17th. Any gesture of appreciation for the drivers is welcomed with a huge "thank you."

Tickets are just $5/person and include lots of rock music, great food, and fun entertainment! *All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

 Healthy Heroes are Returning
The Healthy Heroes nutrition enrichment program begins October 17th!
Who: Students and classes will have a chance to WIN PRIZES for participation. Students who participate in all three sessions will receive a certificate! What: Session 1, Color My Plate, is about healthy eating per the five food groups. Student worksheets are to be handed into your teachers by October 28th for a chance to win! How: For access to the Healthy Heroes lessons and a copy of the program instructions, visit the Healthy Heroes gmail account.

 Classroom Paper Recycling Coming Soon
Beginning October 11th, each classroom will receive a small green bin to recycle all their paper products! All white and colored paper used in the classrooms will be collected in these bins which will then be deposited in our large recycling bin.
Please encourage your child to recycle at school and at home. Together, we can make a HUGE difference!

 Record Number for International Walk to School Day
A big congratulations to all of our walkers and their parents! Oak Grove really showed it's spirit today with a record of 420 walkers (2/3 of the school!) for International Walk to School Day- and on a testing day as well...Thanks to Officer John Obester and his crew for all the help directing traffic and doing the morning announcements.
Thank you all for completing the parent surveys- this will help us secure more funding for the Safe Routes to School National Program. Look for the write- up in the Patch (http://northdruidhills.patch.com/). Be safe and be seen!

 Participate in a Parent Roundtable
The DeKalb County School System is inviting all parents to participate in one of the Superintendent's parent roundtable discussions. These meetings are a part of the overall objective of the Superintendent's Ninety-Day Entry Plan which will be to listen, learn, and lead. The schedule listed on the DeKalb Schools website can assist all parents within the five district regions in deciding which meeting to attend.

 Taylor Organics and CSA Program
Taylor Organics has been Oak Grove Elementary's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program since last May. The provide beautiful and tasty fruits and vegetables at a reasonable price. When: Tuesday evenings (year round). Pick-up time changes when weather gets cooler. Where: SPRIG Restaurant in the Oak Grove Village, 2860 LaVista Road, Decatur, GA 30033 Who: Neighborhood families from all local schools and communities.
