Walking Wednesday Update

Walking Wednesdays are a hit!

Thanks to all who participated in our first Walking Wednesday of the school year on Sept. 7th. Even though it was raining, we had a good turnout with 163 walkers! Let's try to improve that number every Wednesday.

Those new to our school may want to know, what is Walking Wednesday? Walking Wednesdays are sponsored by the "Safe Routes to School" committee. Participating is easy. Just walk or bike to school each Wednesday and receive an incentive award when you arrive! For added fun, join your neighbors and form your own "walking school bus" by designating a regular Wednesday meeting place and time. You never know, you may decide to walk daily!

Be on the lookout for upcoming events-

* International Walk to School Day on October 5th

* classroom challenges

* prize drawings for those walking several Wednesdays, etc.

Did you know? Our school is a Gold Level partner of the Georgia Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Resource Center which is federally funded. If you want to learn more about SRTS go to http://www.saferoutesga.org/.

Terracycle: Oak Grove Earns 2¢ Per Item

Capri Sun and Honest Kids Pouches & Elmer's Glue Sticks

Oak Grove will earn TWO CENTS every time we recycle a Capri Sun or Honest Kids pouch and any Elmer's glue bottle, stick, tube or jar by partnering with TerraCycle (www.terracycle.net). The new black recycling bin for the Capri Sun pouches is located in the cafeteria by the entrance door closest to the stage. Feel free to save your pouches at home and deposit them in the bin. Remind your child to recycle his or her empty pouch at the end of lunch in the new bin.

And if you have empty Elmer's glue sticks, bottles, jars or tubes at home, please feel free to bring them to school and deposit them in the copy/ work room area in the large box under the work table.

To help our teachers collect used glue sticks, we need 40 small boxes - think shoebox size. If you have some boxes available, please bring them to school and place them on the stage on the right as you walk in.

We will earn 2¢ per item, with your help, how easy can it be!
