Dear ,
I don't think I'll ever be ready. . .
I don't think I'll ever be ready for many things that occur, and Ash Wednesday seems to sneak up on me every year. Sure it's on the calendar and I know it's coming. . . but every year it arrives before I'm ready.
And yet, like most things in life, it's not really about me. It's about God, and the reality of our lives with God. Ash Wednesday is a reminder of God's work in our lives - whether or not we are ready.
We were not ready to be created. We were not in charge when we were born. We may not have been ready for the challenges of today. We'll likely not be ready when we draw our last breath.
And yet it's about God. And God is ready. Precious , God has been at work in your fragile life from the beginning and will be into eternity.
I look forward to worshiping with you later today as together we'll pray:
Gracious God, out of your love and mercy you breathed into dust the breath of life, creating us to serve you and our neighbors.
In this season of repentance,
restore to us the joy of your salvation;
strengthen us to face our mortality,
that we may reach with confidence for your mercy;
in Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.
Grateful to God who is always ready for you and for me,
Pastor Jeff Whillock
