U.S. Army CAPTAIN Drew Maney confirmed that the school supplies have arrived and are in his possession.  He and his team will distribute the school supplies that his 12 year old sister collected to Iraqi school children in the Province of Diyala, (such as the child shown in the photo on left who was seen using a sandbag to carry his books to school). Distribution has been delayed several days due to bad sand storms.  We will provide the full story and follow as the supplies get delivered.

Prior to the shipment departing the U.S., the article entitled "Army sister collects supplies for Iraqi kids" was posted on a number of news links as well from the Military Times.com to a front page article in the Miami Herald.

SERE stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape.

The U.S. Navy's east coast SERE headquarters is dedicated as the Rear Admiral Jeremiah A. Denton, Jr. SERE Building.  As most of you know, Admiral Denton spent 7 years and 7 months as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

The special school for training U.S. Navy and Marines to "survive, evade, resist, escape" if ever captured is relocating from Brunswick Naval Air Station, ME to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, NH.  The school was named in honor of Admiral Denton in Brunswick and will continue to hold his name in honor of him at the new location.

"The name is a nod to the school's mission: to train sailors and Marines to withstand the worst of being held as a prisoner of war" as stated in the article.

To the children in the hospitals

We partnered with Loving Hugs, Inc. and FedEx to ship hundreds of stuffed animals and our first distribution was August 21, 2009. Our nine volunteers in Cebu distributed the stuffed animals to the kids in ward area, pediatric ward, and isolated area of the Cebu City Medical Center.

The kids were very happy when they learn that the gifts came all the way from the U.S. Now, they have something to hug when they go home and it will also remind them that the people here in the U.S. care for them. Most of the kids never owned a stuffed animal before so you could see in their faces how excited they were.
