Horses Raise Great Kids!

Quotes of the Week

"One can get in a car and see what man has made. One must get on a horse to see what God has made." -- Author Unknown

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, be we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.
Aristotle

"We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations" - Chuck Swindoll

You have to be able to center yourself, to let all of your emotions go... Don't ever forget that you play with your soul as well as your body.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Ahhh, summer!  Some of the CLS crew take a minute to cool off at Lake Norman.

Message from Parker
Dear Friends,
My sincerest apologies for the delay in getting this newsletter to you. We've been so busy with camps and horse shows, plus an impromptu horse-hunting trip to Kentucky.

We're back now, and off to yet another show! This one is in Asheville this weekend. If you can join us, ride up for the day. The weather is supposed to be in the 70s!

After our last show in Charlotte, with 100 + temperatures, we won't know what to do!

We hope to see you soon, at the barn!

Parker

To the right:  pictures from the Charlotte Charity Show -- their 20th Anniversary.  CLS riders looked fantastic. Ms. Jeanine nearly passed out in the 100-degree heat. But somehow we still had fun!

Quick extra note:

Parents - we are in the process of preparing our schedules for Fall 2012.  Many of you may be on a summer riding schedule that will change with the start of school.

Please go ahead and let us know what your Fall riding schedule will be as soon as you know it so we can provide you with the class times you need.  With our new system it's easy to plan ahead!

With Nationals in November, many of our National Team members are going to want to ride more frequently.  So please, let us know your schedules -- thanks!

Advanced Camp
Vaulting? Doubles? Synchronized Riding? Welcome to Advanced Camp 2012!

We thank all of the riders who participated in our Advanced Riding Camp this year -- and we had a blast.  Our campers challenged themselves by trying new things (like standing on a horse!) and truly taking their riding skills to the next level.  Congratulations to this great group for completing this exciting week.

CLS Riders Selling Fruit Pops to Raise Money for St. Judes' Children's Research Hospital

Nothing beats the heat like a nice cool fruity pop.  And they're now for sale at the office -- Some of our thoughtful young riders are doing a cool pop campaign to raise money for St. Jude's in anticipation of Nationals. Other riders are selling cold water bottles! It's awesome to see our children working hard to help others.  Bring those dollar bills and enjoy!
Would Your Rider Like to Earn a Medal This Year?
Kim Stewart will be submitting American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) Academy points for CLS again for the end of the year achievement certificates and medals.

Each academy rider has the opportunity to earn Master, Gold, Silver or Bronze medals based on the number of years they have participated and how many "points" they earn in the show ring.

The Master Medalists must earn 20 riding points, plus 15 to 20 activity points.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists will need 15 riding points to receive recognition.

Each rider earns 3 riding points per class for a first place ribbon, 2 points for 2nd - 8th place and 1 point for participation if he/she did not ribbon.

In addition to all the regular shows we attend, the Winter Tournament and CLS Spring and Fall Fun Shows do count toward riding points too.

If you have any questions, just send me an e-mail to kimstewart123@gmail.com and I will be happy to help!

Thanks!

USEF High School Equestrian Program
All CLS 9th -12th grade riders who show are eligible to participate in the USEF High School Equestrian Program, which allows riders to "letter" in equestrian sports.

The official 2012-2013 Show Season began June 1st.  Each rider must show in at least 3 shows and ride 100 hours per school year.

In 2011-2012, we had 10 CLS riders participate!

If your high school rider would like to participate and is not already signed up, please e-mail barn Kim Stewart at kimstewart123@gmail.com. Thanks!

Upcoming Horse Shows

This weekend we're looking forward to the Asheville Invitational. Good luck to all of our riders who are participating and we hope there's less heat than our last show! Whew!

Getting to Know Max and Tina
Please take a moment to introduce your family to Max Ciampoli, the new CLS trainer, and his assistant trainer, Tina Glosemeyer.

They are top notch trainers, and we're very fortunate to have them at CLS!  Here's an article about them that you might find interesting.
