Dear Friends, A man stopped in to introduce himself at the barn last night. He works for the City of Winston-Salem, and he spends much of his time at work and after hours working with "at-risk" youth. He asked me if I could help a young girl he knows who is heading down the wrong path. She loves horses. We talked at length, and finally I asked him why he came here. He said he became aware of CLS many years ago after hearing an interview with us on NPR. Through the years, he's read articles, and so forth, about our work. The he said, "You have a higher calling than horses. You change kids' lives. That's why I'm here." My blood frosted that quick way it does when you shiver unexpectedly. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about how God works. In strange, wondrous ways.
I tell our babies all the time to follow their passion, no matter where it takes them. Their inner voices will reveal their life's purpose - and the source of their joy. In recent years, I have struggled to hear what my inner voice is saying. Life, fear, exhaustion, selfishness -- all of these things can muffle the message. In those times, it's wonderful when God sends the message another way.
We'll see you soon, at the barn.
