 Dear Friends,
Thank you. The outpouring of support for our Horses Against Hunger Charity Fun Show was overwhelming. By next week, we should be able to report a total of money and food donations. They're still coming in! We're heartened by your support. And we're thankful for your dedication to teaching our children to look outside themselves and help others.
Thank you also for your patience as we work to continually improve CLS. There is so much big, wonderful news to share. The new modulars out back are going to be awesome, once they're fully set up to provide us an incredible amount of storage. We're fixing the inside stalls with some of the toughest, prettiest white oak boards I've ever seen. We have new shavings in the arena. The new offices in the back are almost complete. The old buildings out back are being restored or torn down completely. And all the scrap metal is being gathered and will soon be off to the recycler. After that, we plan to paint and spruce up the school horse tack room, and to expand the tack shop.
The most exciting news of all is the long-awaited arrival of CLS Head Trainer Max Ciampoli, who gets here next week! More details on this to follow. In addition to Steve and Julia Joyce, who already train at CLS, Max's arrival means that CLS will employ the most-experienced, talented and highly-regarded training staff of any Saddlebred barn in the Southeast region. Combine this powerhouse team with our nationally-renowned riding academy staff, and we have one mighty special barn to be proud of and enjoy! And it's all possible because of this incredible barn family -- the folks who've stuck by us through thick and thin -- making my family's dreams a reality.
I'm humbled and forever thankful. Stay tuned for more updates. We're off to Asheville for a horse show. We'll be back next week to welcome Max and to see our beloved Sondra graduate with honors from Salem College. Our blessings abound.
We'll see you soon, at the barn!

Starting in June, ALL CLS Riders need their own helmet, riding boots and crop
For safety, insurance regulations and for sanitation reasons, we soon will require that ALL CLS riders must ride in their own properly fitted helmet and riding boots.
Most of our riders already have their own equipment. But Ms. Parker has been lax about requiring proper riding boots for all. And in recent weeks, she's seen waaaaay too many ill-fitted helmets. Safety is our top priority at CLS. So starting June 1, no one will ride without boots and a properly-fitted helmet of their very own.
For riders who need a crop, as well, these also will need to be provided by riders starting June 1. The rate at which riders are breaking and tearing up riding whips is astronomical. Ms. Parker found two stuck in the mud like flags last week. And this week, she found one tied with haystring swinging from the hayloft. Not sure what kind of game the kids were playing with that one! And she found another in the water trough. Heaven only knows why.
Our tack shop has everything you need. We also have many used items in our consignment shop.
We know there are times when we all forget something -- and that's okay. We have used items available to borrow in these cases. Please see the office staff to help you with any items that need to be borrowed or purchased. We're being forced to keep Ms. Parker's CLS Tack Shop locked because several items have gone missing recently. Ugh.
Thanks so much for your understanding. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Parker right away!

Great Pony Rides All Over Town
If you've been to a big outdoor spring event lately -- a school fair, Earth Day, etc. -- there's a good chance you saw us there giving pony rides! We love offering pony rides and finding our next great World Champion riders! It all starts with a pony ride and a riding lesson!
We want to thank ALL of the volunteers who've helped us lately. One standout is Jackson MacLean, whose sister Allison is a CLS show rider. Jackson and his Dad Doug have teamed up to become quite the pony ride masters!
If you're interested in helping with our pony rides or you have a school, church or 5K in need of some pony rides, please let us know! We go for free, and we have a ball!

Thanks for a Great Night at Genghis!

Thank you CLS Families for Helping Fight Hunger with our Night Out at Genghis Grill!
Special thanks to Chris and Sarah McAuley for opening their Genghis Grill to our Horses Against Hunger campaign. A portion of the proceeds from the restaurant's receipts last Tuesday night will be donated to help our fight to end local hunger. The dinner was scrumptious -- and the company was even better! Thank you to the CLS families who came out to show your support and enioy an awesome Genghis dinner!

Asheville Show This Weekend!
|
Good luck to our riders heading to the Asheville Show this weekend. We have a great group of more than 30 riders participating! |
Next up (after Asheville) is the Dallas Summer Classic. CLS Show Horse Riders and Academy Riders travel to horse shows throughout the year. But none is as fun as this ol-timey horse show held in Dallas, NC. It's perfect for tailgating, too!
If you are a rider at CLS who is not showing and think you might want to start, join our cheering section at the Dallas Horse Show. Then you'll understand how we have so much fun! See the office for details.
