Nothing is more beautiful than a horse lovin' baby girl with her trusted friend.  Special thanks to mom, Ann Byrne, for sending us this gorgeous picture of her daughter Cate at the barn with CC.

BIG News!
IT'S A GIRL!!!
Congratulations to Blondie, Cash and Parker's broodmare!

Name suggestions anyone? Her mom is Mystical Cat (Blondie). Her dad is Undulata's Nutcracker.
She just foaled an adorable American Saddlebred filly by the renowned stud, Undulata's Nutcracker. Special thanks to Billy and Pam Maddy for foaling her out on their gorgeous Christiansburg, VA. farm. We can hardly wait to watch her grow. Billy claims she is the only baby he's ever birthed that hit the ground striking and kicking!

Those Cash Lovell girls are fiesty!

Congratulations to Academy Team Member Morgan Miller (shown here with her mom Julie) and to ALL of our incredible CLS riders for a great show in Clemson, SC.  See below for more details and results.
Message from Parker
Dear Friends,
Five of my girls were hanging out in our camper at the horse show in Clemson. We were between sessions. My feet ached, so I plopped down on the couch between them. The conversation turned to boys - then to other related matters. And the questions began.

I managed somehow to extract my tongue from my throat, hide my shaking hands in Cooper's fur and speak. It took about, oh say 6 minutes, before they bored of all this nonsense and went outside to play horse show in the mud. You can't imagine my relief.

It's among the greatest honors of my life that my girls trust me that much. Horse girls are such a different breed. Yes, they have the same curiosities and worries as most pre-teen girls. But these thoughts are only a small part of their lives -- and they're low on their list of priorities. Horse girls have a healthy and unique perspective on life. When compared to controlling a 1,000-pound animal, human boys aren't nearly so challenging or interesting. In the same vein, boys who grow up riding horses also are a different lot. When you're surrounded by gorgeous, smart, tough girls who thrive on beating you in front of hundreds of spectators, your standards for what a girl should be are forever elevated.

Here's to horse children. Thank you God for sending them to this earth. And thank you to our parents for sharing them with us.

Remembering Skyhawk
SKYHAWK
by Mary Rose Biallas

The air of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.

 ~Arabian Proverb

The first time I rode bouncy Skyhawk, I knew he was special. Tacking him up, I marveled at the velvet texture of his coat. He was so warm that it was tempting to just snuggle up to his neck and nap. Although he was a noble creature in his patience with inexperienced riders, our Skyhawk was a rascal and a clown.

Skyhawk was the messiest eater I have ever seen. When you fed him an apple, he made apple foam. He was the master at cutting corners in the arena. Now, we have several that are very good at downsizing that ring, but Skyhawk was the BOSS. Riding him outside was delightful unless the weeds around the ring had not been cut in a while. Skyhawk was afraid of big weeds. He would cut in to the grass if he saw one coming his way. Speaking of grass, that is the only time I fell off Skyhawk. I was careless, and he saw his chance to grab a snack. I did a somersault over his head while he was munching away.

Skyhawk has had many friends, but he found his true soul mate when Harry came to CLS. The two of them spent many an hour, side by side, cribbing on the pasture fence. (FYI-Turbo is a lone cribber) No cribbing strap in the world would stop Skyhawk. Take a good look at the fence; the evidence is plain as day.

It is a challenge for new students to identify the horses, but it was easy to pick out Skyhawk with the star on his forehead and three white socks. He had a long forelock which made him look slightly sleepy. He was beautiful, and he was our friend. I was always so proud to introduce him to a new rider. I knew that rider would feel the air of heaven blow between Skyhawk's ears just like I had so many times.

Thank you to CLS Staff Member Mary Rose for contributing this beautiful piece about Skyhawk. Mary Rose is an English Teacher at Reagan High School.
