Dear CLS Family and Friends,
On Monday, while I was helping a friend, Cash and Cashlyn turned out Buddy and Lucy at our house. Like a zillion times before, they took off into our woods chasing a deer. Buddy came back. Lucy didn't.
It's been an exhaustive week of searching. I want to thank each person who has called and searched and prayed. And there have been literally hundreds.
We hired a professional tracker to help us. His beautiful dog tracked Lucy's scent around her normal path on our farm. The scent went cold at our pond. This could mean many things, nearly none of them good. But I cannot give up hope. And I won't.
Yesterday, we received a call from Animal Control. The officer had called home base, reporting that he had picked up a Miniature Schnauzer. We blistered a path to the shelter, only to find that it wasn't her she. It wasn't a Schnauzer, at all, but a little Jack Russell, wearing a collar. His owner was already on his way to pick him up. Crushed and defeated, turning toward the door, Cashlyn, Kylie and I stopped at about the same time. Our curiosity led us to a back cage where a chubby little Beagle stood terrified and shaking.
Cooper came home with us. Today, when another call came in for another possible Lucy sighting, Cooper rode in the car with me to find her. Another dead end. As I type this, Buddy is in my lap. Cooper is in his new doggy bed at my feet. Between us is my phone, We're waiting for it to ring and bring Lucy home to us.
Parker
PS. Please know how much we all appreciate the thoughts, prayers and offers to help. This awfulness has shown us how many people who love us. It's just still really, really hard to talk about Lucy. So if we can't when we see you, I know you'll understand. |

This Man Knows His Shoes Gordon Ingram is renowned across our region for his incredible work as a farrier -- "horse shoer". He's a masterful artist with a horse's hooves.
Show horses wear custom-made shoes, and about every 6 weeks, their hooves must be trimmed and their shoes reset. You cannot imagine the precision involved.
Gordon is usually at CLS every Wednesday. So stop by and watch him in action. He loves homemade banana pudding! Granny surprises him with it sometimes. But keep that hush-hush. His wife prefers that he eat protein bars! |

Our Barn Helpers of the Week are ...
Brandon Lummus (14) and Jordan Lowery (17), both students at North Davidson High School, are volunteering at CLS through an Agricultural Science Class. These fine young men want to learn about farm life.
So far, they've cleaned tack, replaced those massive rubber mats in the standing stalls, painted, cleaned, swept and even learned to give electromagnetic therapy to horses!
These are fine young men, and we're tickled to meet them and work with them. These fellas are wonderful ambassadors for North Davidson, and it's our honor to work with them.
Congratulations guys on being our Helpers of the Week!

Note from Dr. Medge (Who is Now in Ghana)
Thanks to the Little Bits, now the community school has running water, teacher bonuses ($35 per teacher, they only make about $40/mo) and a gas cylinder/cooking stove. Money was also given to help fix the outhouse (toilet). This project has received $1,000 from Little Bits so far to accomplish this. In the next visit, we will give money to build new desks. These will be delivered when the CLS groups arrives. Our job will be to paint them! Many thanks for your support.
