Riders, helpers, families and instructors made our barn shine this year at Nationals!  Results and more below. Thank you, everyone!

Letter from Parker

Dear Barn Families and Friends,

Even my teeth are achy and tired! Whew, what a wonderful whirlwind these last few weeks have been. From the biggest Charity Fun Show in our history to the biggest National Academy Finals team CLS has ever fielded, we're pooped. But we're also so, so tickled and energized!

With your help, at Nationals we were able to present St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital with a $10,000 donation from Lovell's Little Bits. It was a highlight of my life. And it exemplifies what CLS stands for: doing good work through amazing children who love these magnificent horses. I was weepy with pride before the show ever started. And then came the riders. And man did they ride! I'm not one for celebrating one color ribbon over another. But when you look at the statistics for CLS riders, the power and strength - the dominance really - that the CLS riders showed, was awesome. Here are a few of the stats. Nineteen CLS riders earned:

  • 9 National Championship titles
  • 17 Reserve National Championship titles
  • 10 Top Three honors
  • 10 Top Four honors
  • 10 Top Five honors
  • 10 Top Six honors
  • 8 Top Seven honors
  • 9 Top Eight honors
  • 4 Top Nine honors
  • 3 Top Ten honors

If I was any more proud, I would literally bust wide open. And here's why: Not one time, during the course of the entire show, did I see a CLS rider act in any way other than honorable. I never saw - NOT ONCE - a CLS rider show poor sportsmanship. Instead, I saw them show incredible acts of kindness and selflessness. Giving their ribbons to teammates who didn't earn one. Giving ribbons to the caretakers, and their barn-mate helpers, who made it all possible. Thanking their instructors in the lineup, before a placing was ever announced. Literally willing their teammates from the sidelines to advance to the next level - and if they didn't, meeting them at the outgate with the kindest spirits of compassion, empathy and encouragement. And for those whose rides ended in the elimination rounds, to see those babies strip off their show clothes, throw on their work duds, and help groom their teammates' horses, even as their own little hearts were crushed - let me just tell you that it doesn't get any better. As someone whose life is devoted to using horses to inspire and develop tomorrow's leaders, there is NO greater platform on which these babies can grow. I believe that with all my heart. And I saw it on parade in Murfreesboro, TN last weekend.

Cash and I departed the National Finals Sunday night, just hours after the show ended. We drove all night to Stephens College in Columbia, MO, where I was slated to speak to the school's Equestrian Science students on Monday. And all day long, I did just that. Through my delirious fog of exhaustion, I couldn't help but marvel at all the young people who want to dedicate their lives to doing what we do. And then, after listening to them, I couldn't help but laugh. So young. So naïve. So wonderfully fresh.

After two more days of frantic travel, looking at horses to buy, visiting colleagues and interviewing future staff members, we rolled into NC and home sometime Wednesday night. We had logged over 2,000 miles in a few short days. And all I could do was laugh. Cashlyn, whom we had left for the first time in her 9-year-old life, was agaggle with excitement to see us - and us her. But instead of snuggling, we had to study. Seems the favorite aunt and grandmother, who had been responsible for said child during our time away -- hadn't done ANY homework. Seems that's not "fun". Oh brother . . .

Thank you for reading. Enjoy the newsletter. Please join me in congratulating the members of the CLS National Academy Finals team members, and their wonderful instructors. And we'll look forward to seeing you, at the barn!

Nationals Results - Go CLS!
CLS Shines at the Nationals!
Congratulations to ALL of our riders who participated in the National Academy Championships. This was an incredible year for CLS and we thank our riders, their parents, our instructors, our volunteers, the photographers, our helpers and everyone else who lent a hand to get our riders ready to ride at Nationals. Through proceeds from the Fall Fun Show along with our rider's hard work, creativity and sheer determination, our barn was able to give St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital a check for $10,000.  Wow!

News
Instructor Kathryn Rodosky moving to Reidsville

We want to wish CLS Instructor Kathryn Rodosky best wishes as she strikes out on her own. Kathryn, who has been one of 8 CLS instructors for the past three year, has recently moved to Reidsville, NC and plans to open her own lesson barn nearby. Kathryn did a fine job during her time at CLS, and we wish her the very best as she branches out on her own.

We'll miss you Kathryn, and your rebel spirit!

Give a Kid a Coat!
CLS's Little Bits Youth Club will be collecting winter coats to donate to the Give A Kid A Coat Campaign on Saturday, November 19th.  This local program is sponsored by A Cleaner World, WGHP/Fox 8, 1075KZL, and The Salvation Army. Just drop off your gently used winter coats to the CLS office on or before the 19th. We'll deliver them to a Cleaner World where the coats will be repaired, dry cleaned and distributed to local children whose families are not able to afford a warm winter jacket this holiday season.
