Letter from Parker
go baby go

Welcome the newest addition to the Hawley family! Congratulations to the Hawleys, and to this little dude's proud mama, Go Baby Go!

 Lilly and Dad

Proud Daddy Tony and his beautiful Lily, celebrating her great ride in Asheville in May!

Dear CLS Friends,

It's bad when you're too dang busy to stop and say Thank You. It's even worse when you don't have time to count the more than $6,000!! that your wonderful barn family raised for our Ghana Orphans project during the Spring Fun Show! But Granny and I are working on it, I promise! And by the next newsletter, I'll have a full rundown on this amazing event.

But first, we're off to horse shows in Dallas, and then Blowing Rock. And then our babies get out of school for the summer!!

Consider this a strict order for all CLS Barn Babies to spend long, hot, sweaty, stinky, wonderful summer days with us here in the barn!

Please take a second to scroll down and catch up on all the great stuff happening at CLS. No wonder I'm so busy . . .

Much love and thanks,

Parker

P.S. CLS riders are featured in many articles in ASHA's new spring/summer edition of Junior Junction Magazine. Click here to check it out.

A Fantastic Fun Show!!!

Spring Fun Show is a blast; Raises $6,000 for the Orphanage in Ghana!

First we need to thank the entire barn family for the incredible success of our Spring Fun Show.  What a blast and we managed to raise $6,000 for the orphans in Ghana.  The Kentucky Derby party, visit from Miss Lovellina and more made this a party to remember. There are so many people we have to thank for putting this all together and there is no way we could ever do what we do without the support of each one of you -- so THANK YOU SO MUCH!

In Memory of Julian

sharon wilsonRemembering Julian

It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to Sharon Wilson's beloved show horse, CH Turn On The Heat -- better known to his many fans as Julian.

Julian was humanely put to rest at the NC State Veterinary Hospital last week, after undergoing emergency colic surgery. Sharon was with him until the end, feeding him peppermints, stroking his blazed sweet face.

Julian was born on May 10, 1997. His illustrious show career began in 2000 when he won the Three-Year-Old 5-Gaited class at the Asheville Lions Club Horse Show. Julian went on to win championships in every division in which he was shown -- and stealing hearts from coast to coast. In March 2010, Bob Wilson surprised his wife, Sharon, with a horse of her very own -- her beloved Julian.

Our thoughts, sympathies and prayers are with Sharon during this devastating time.

News

fruits and vegetables

Where can you get fresh fruits and vegetables this summer?  At CLS!

Cash Lovell Stables will be an official "Gathering Site" for the Farm-to-Table Co-op.  This is a group of local farmers led by our very own Wallace and Susan Williamson who want to help you get fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables to your table.

How does it work?  It's simple. You sign up to get a box of produce every week and you pick it up at CLS (or any other Gathering Site that's convenient for you.)

What's in the Box?  Much of the produce in the spring/summer boxes are familiar favorites -- lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, etc -- ALL LOCALLY GROWN! There will be a few that may be "stretchers" - honey, okra, eggplant.

Blare Honor SocietyBlair Huff Inducted into the National Junior Honor Society

Horses raise great kids -- and mighty smart ones, too!  Blair Huff, a CLS Academy Rider, recently was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at Flat Rock Middle School.

Blair also was accepted to participate in an exclusive program, The Early College of Forsyth. This is a highly competitive program which gives students an opportunity to meet high school graduation standards and earn a two-year Associates of Arts degree -- at the same time.

And if that isn't enough, Blair's parents just surprised her with her own MMX saddle at the Asheville Lions Club Horse Show last week. Blair showed in her new saddle and earned a Fourth and a Third place ribbon in the highly competitive older age group of Walk, Trot, Canter riders.

Congratulations, Blair! We are mighty proud of you!

CLS Rider Sarah Martin Dedicates Her Showing To The Orphans

Sarah MartinThe United Professional Horseman's Association (UPHA) Ribbons of Service program provides equitation riders from across the nation an opportunity to show a horse, and help a charity at the same time.

Individuals and businesses pledge $10 or more per class to sponsor a rider for the show season.  The rider shows in as many equitation classes as possible to support the charity - usually about 10 classes per year. All sponsorships are 100% tax deductible.

It heartens us that Sarah was so moved by our work with the Ghanaian Orphanage that she's dedicated her 2011 Season to helping them on her own!

There is a poster in the barn office that explains more. Or feel free to email Sarah at ptmartin@triad.rr.com for more details. Please consider sponsoring this remarkable young lady!
