Letter from Parker

Dear CLS Friends,

cashlyn, lilly and bella

Oh those zany barn girls!

I told Sissy that I've already started doubling up on my nerve pills and vitamins in preparation for our WILD weekend ahead!

oneFirst up, Race for the Cure. Get our those running shoes friends and prepare for a great day with the CLS team.

number twoNext up -- the Spring Fun Show. We still need volunteers, so if you're willing to man a table, or sell a hot dog, or chase a loose horse or baby, email me please!!

number threeTo finish things off we'll be mixing up some mint juleps and watching the Run for the Roses!  And we're gambling too (all for charity, of course!), and hosting the world's greatest Derby Hat Parade!

donkey picture

Mr. Cash rolled in last week with a surprise for all of us -- a miniature donkey! His name is Festus, and Granny already has him spoiled senseless. Festus will be sporting a new hat, and leading the Derby Hat Parade!!

Update on Ms. Kathryn:

Our patient is ornery, and stubborn, and hobbling around the barn barking all kinds of orders. Things are back to normal!

Barn Family Prayers Needed

Please pray for Lindsay's family. Her brother, Bradley Jones, lost his home this week when tornadoes ripped across Alabama. Thank heavens, he and his girlfriend -- and their dog! -- were at a friend's house at the time and are safe. Parents Pam and Scott have been in Alabama, counting their blessings and helping him rebuild his life.

On to better news, we have a barn family celebration! Little Lauren Riggins turned 18 this week. Happy Birthday, Lauren!

This week will be plum wild in the barn. So whether you want to jump in and help, or sit back and watch the madness, come on over.

We'll look forward to seeing you, at the barn!

ashley stewartTwo CLS Riders Inducted into the National Jr. Honor Society for Academic Achievement

Chris Hawley and Ashley Stewart, who are CLS Show Horse Riders, were just inducted into the National Jr. Honor Society. Both Chris and Ashley are students at Forsyth Country Day School.

Chris shows Ms. Betty Grable in Jr. Exhibitor 3-Gaited Show Pleasure. And Ashley shows Out of Reach in Jr. Exhibitor 5-Gaited Show Pleasure.

The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the chris headshotnation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.

Sissy Receives Important CPCE Designation

sissyNote from Ms. Parker :

My grandmother always says it's not bragging if it's the truth. Amen.

So parden my while I tell the truth. My sister, Jessica Wallace, who is better known to all in my world as Sissy, is now one of only four people in North Carolina to earn her Certified Professional Catering Executive (CPCE) designation from the National Association of Catering Executives. It's a big deal in her industry.

Sissy already is one of only a handful of caterers in the state with her White House security clearance. This means when any bigwig from the government, or even the President, comes to visit, Sissy feeds them. She is the Catering Director at Wake Forest University, and formerly was the creative genius behind Catering By Ellyn's in Greensboro, under its original ownership.

My Sissy is also the creative workhorse behind all of our great barn parties and events. She is the one who makes it all possible, she handles all the grunt work, all the creative genius, while I smile pretty and run my mouth.

Recently, she said, "I read in the newsletter that you're hosting a Derby Party."

Yes, I replied.

"You don't have any idea how to throw a Derby party, do you?" she asked.

Nope, I replied.

But you watch, Sissy will make sure it's the darndest Derby Party you've ever attended. And I'll smile pretty and run my mouth . . .

We're mighty proud of you Sissy!  And we all love you!

Show Rider Jozy Unal Raises $270 for Handicapped Horseback Riders at her 9th Birthday Party

CLS Show Rider Jozy Unal did an amazing thing. In lieu of gifts at her 9th birthday party, she decided to ask friends to give money to Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center in Tobaccoville.

Her friends contributed an astonishing $270 -- pretty amazing for a bunch of 9-year olds (with some very generous parents). Jozy, thank you and we are so proud of you. Happy Birthday baby!

CLS Academy Team Member Elizabeth Marshall Donates $100 to Ghana from her piggy bank

Little Bit Elizabeth Marshall is quite a saver!  And she's also very generous. She just contributed $100 to the orphanage in Ghana to help provide food, clean water, clothing and electricity.

Elizabeth used part of her savings to help kids on the other side of the globe.

That's the spirit, Elizabeth!

Soles4Soles
Shoes -- we want your shoes!  Yes, please bring those shoes that are crushing little toes because they're too small and give them to Soles 4 Soles. This is a wonderful group that send gently used (or new) shoes to folks who need them. Have you ever bought your children some shoes and felt like they grew out of them the next week?!  Well, this is a great opportunity to put those shoes in good hands.  Drop off shoes all this month in the office. Thanks!
