Horses Raise Great Kids!

Quotes of the Week

"The people who have helped me the most  in my career told me things I didn't like hearing at the time. But three weeks, or three months, or three years later, that's the person I remember as making the biggest impact on me."

Letter from Parker

Dear CLS Friends,

lauren riggins pictures

Congratulations, Lauren -- We're so proud of you!

Spring has sprung, and I LOVE IT!!

I've realized one thing already this spring: I'm old. Yes, that is Lauren Riggin's graduation picture. In my mind, that baby is still 7 years old, grinning toothless from atop sweet, pudgy Piper.

Lauren has been a standout child at CLS for many years. She's the perfect example that, yes, horses do raise great kids. Watch out UNCW!

We're busy, busy busy this week checking show outfits, packing tack trunks, washing towels (thank you for the old towel donations!) and washing horse tails too!

By this time next week, we will have TWO shows behind us for the 2011 season. And if Raleigh is half as successful as ASAC was last week, we'll be off to a whopping good start!

Click here for a list of results from the ASAC show

last week. We're so proud of our riders!

Also by this time next week, my family will be on a Spring Break cruise. You know what this means: GRANNY'S IN CHARGE! Let the party begin!

Please read below to see all the wonderful events that are coming up. Thank you for supporting our barn, the projects we're involved with and being part of all this crazy fun.

FUN FRIDAYbutton

Join us for our APRIL FUN FRIDAY Kick-off to our project in Ghana, Africa!

Our April Fun Friday will be one of the most important events of 2011. At this meeting, we will launch the biggest humanitarian project in our history. With the help of CLS Mom Medge Owen, the CLS family will "adopt" a children's home in Ghana. Much of our charitable work over the coming year will be to help the 35 orphaned Ghanaian children living in this special home.

There will be a big article about our project in the April issue of Forsyth Woman magazine - be on the lookout for it!

To launch this project, we will welcome a family from Tennessee and the children they've recently adopted from this home. They will join us for Fun Friday. We also will welcome a child advocate from Ghana with whom we'll work closely. He is in the States for only a brief time, and he will be with us to share photos and insights into the children whose lives we hope to touch.

Please join us for this special Fun Friday. As always, there will be fun and crazy games, and wonderful horses and pizza galore!  We'll also be tie-dyeing shirts in the colors of Ghana.

posterSupport the Ronald McDonald house by buying a $10 T-shirt and wearing it on

Friday, April 15

Again this year, CLS is partnering with the Ronald McDonald house in their massive $100,000 fundraiser.

The Ronald McDonald House provides free accommodations and support for families with children who are receiving services at the hospital.

Join the CLS barn family by purchasing your special shirt, and then wearing it on April 15th at the JD Massey Horse Show in Clemson, SC. We'll all be wearing ours!

To buy a shirt simply stop in the office at CLS. You can write a check for $10 and leave it in Kim Stewart's manila folder. Please let us know what size shirt you would like. Thanks!

food bank logoThanks for the Cans!
Our March food drive was very successful and we were able to contribute 140 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  This is the equivalent of $340 worth of meals to help families in need.

Thank you also to Chef Jeff, dad of Little Bits member Morgan Bacon, who came to the Little Bits meeting to talk to our riders about how the cans we collected will help our community.

Thank you CLS families for your generosity!  Great job.

Horses for Sale
Show Horse for sale - CH Haden Fox

CH Haden Fox, one of the greatest equitation horses available for sale today. And he's right here, at CLS!

What is a Show Horse?? What do they cost? What do they do? Is a show horse something to consider for my family?
Great questions. And don't worry. Just asking the question only means you'll become more educated. NOT that you'll be pushed to buy a horse.

At CLS, we want families to enjoy horses in their lives in whatever way is best for them. Owning a horse -- any kind of horse -- is a huge step. And it can't be taken without doing your homework, lots and lots of homework. Sometimes horse ownership is a great step for folks. But it's not for everyone.

So if you're interested in asking a few questions, in planning now in order to make a future dream come true -- email us. We'll figure out a time to chat.

Ms. Parker has a booklet that details everything potential Show Horse owners need to know -- and a few things that you might be wondering but are afraid to ask!

We've celebrated many young riders lately who have taken that "next step" to becoming a show horse rider. Their parents "first step" was to learn.

We would be delighted to talk with you.
