Let's see now. Since I last wrote, we've hosted the most intensive Show Rider Camp in our history, we've hosted our first International Competition, we've shown in the World's Championships along with two other big shows - and through all that wonderful, hard work, Cash has lost 10 pounds - and I've gained 10 pounds.

Would somebody please tell me how that is possible?!?!

There are so many wonderful happenings in our barn. Please, please read all about it below!  Enjoy this wonderful Fall weather, the structure of back to school schedules, and our amazing children. And we'll look forward to seeing you at the barn!

Recap:  World Cup at CLS
WORLD CUP AT CLS

TV cameras rolled.  The newspaper reported. Magazine photographers snapped. In short, you could live under a rock and still know that something BIG happened at CLS recently! We hosted our first International Competition! And it was an amazing experience for all of us. CLS fielded its own team to compete again the United States and South African teams in front of a distinguished three-judge panel.
CLS  riders competed in qualifying rounds held during the barn's week long advanced show rider camp, which was coached by renowned equitation judge and coach, Ms. Cindy Mugnier from Granby, MA. Riders scoring the most points in the Walk-Trot-Canter division were chosen to ride on the CLS Team: Caroline Anderson, Jake Butts, Sarah Martin, Emily McKay, Ashley Stewart, Lauren Riggins and Candace Lovell.  Two of our Top Scorers from the Walk and Trot divisions, Sydney Cearley and Chloe Marion earned spots as assistant coaches. Younger riders from the show rider camp worked as Ambassadors to the competing teams.

Team CLS earned the Bronze medal for the overall score. CLS Team Member Sarah Martin stunned the crowd by earning the Overall Silver Medal for the competition's individual scoring. This is an amazing feat. Riders from both other teams were older and more seasoned riders, all of whom have competed internationally prior to this event.  We were so proud of ALL of our CLS Team Riders, Coaches and Ambassadors. In many articles and write ups about the event in several equine magazines since the event,  it's been noted how gracious, kind and talented were the young CLS riders. This, as anybody who knows me will attest, makes my whole world happy!  Congratulations to all who participated. And special thanks to the CLS Moms and Dads who worked tirelessly to help us host this unprecedented horse show.

cashlyn in evening dressHeralded as the biggest Saddlebred horse show in the world, this show always brings out a parade of stars. From William Shatner and his stable of champion horses, to Carson Kressley and his entourage of chic equestrians, it's a sightseeing show to behold! More than 3,500 of the best American Saddlebreds in the world convene in Freedom Hall to compete for World's Championship ribbons.

This year, every Cash Lovell Stables rider who competed in Louisville earned one of those ribbons - and every single rider also qualified to ride in his or her championships - a truly remarkable feat!

Congratulations to Jake Butts, Caroline Anderson, Sharon Anderson and Sarah Martin on their incredible performances. And another congratulations to Cashlyn Lovell who, at 6 years of age, earned a Top Three finish in a tough field of 7 and 8 year old riders. Way to go! We're so proud!

sharon anderson's babyInteresting story: a colt that Sharon Anderson bred and raised earned a Top Three finish in a field of 34 amazing weanlings! A stunning achievement for any breeder, much less a small breeder from Welcome, NC! Congratulations, Sharon!

CLS Gets a Make-over in time for the World Cup!
sarah m.Nothing like a little international press coverage to inspire us to spiff up the place! So in preparation for our International World Cup Competition - and we might add, it was long overdue! - the CLS family got busy scrubbing and painting and planting plants. Special thanks to all of our moms and dads who made our facelift possible with your backbreaking generosity. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful families who care about us.  It's because of you that CLS is full of love.
In honor of Dreamer:  a Dream of a Landscaping Make-over!
landscape_dreamerExtra special thanks to Emily and Bill Semans, who planted and dedicated our gorgeous new garden! They dedicated the quiet and quaint greeting spot at the entrance to the indoor arena to their former horse, All I Do Is Dream, who passed away nearly a year ago, and to all of the other phenomenal horses we've loved and lost. These horses changed our lives, and we will never forget them, or Bill and Emily, for providing such a unique and special spot on our farm for remembering.
Ever Wonder Why CLS Kids are So Dang Smart?
nascarI KNOW. IT'S BECAUSE THEY HAVE SUCH SMART MAMAs!!
Two cases in point. The first is Amy Elliott, Felicia's mom. Not only has Amy beaten her battle with one of the most vicious cancers, Sarcoma, she's leading another fight, too. This one is to bring awareness to this highly deadly, but virtually unknown, form of cancer.  But not for long. Not if Amy Elliott is leading the charge. Thanks to her hard work and ingenuity, there is a NASCAR car that now carries a huge slogan:  "Sarcoma: The Forgotten Cancer." Ever tried getting free space on a race car???? We're not sure how she pulled it off. All we know is this: If we ever need to pull off the impossible, we know whom to call!

The second mom in the spotlight this month is longtime CLS mom Nancy Hawley. Nancy is a vice president of RJ Reynolds. She also is the newest member of an international women's organization made up of business leaders from around the globe. Nancy was asked to join the exclusive group recently, and is networking with them in Miami, FL, at this very moment. We're proud of you Nancy!
Ick, No One Likes Paying Bills But...

Please remember  to make your riding lesson and show checks payable to
 "Cash Lovell."
We know.  It's hard to remember not to put the "Stables" on the check. But for our accounting purposes, it makes life lots simpler -- for us and the bank anyway -- if you can remember that shorter is better.

Also, please remember that you are welcome to pay by the week. But if you do so, the price per lesson is $35, NOT $30. Since we have such a small staff, it's really difficult to handle four or five checks instead of one. So if you choose to pay by the week, unfortunately, we cannot offer a discount for the lessons. So please remember  to add the additional $ 5 fee. Thank you so much!

Attention Young Writers!
Story Writing Challenge - Win a Prize!
Little Ally Hibbitts, an adorable and very active member of our barn, presented Ms. Parker with a "book" recently. She and a couple of her friends wrote it and illustrated it. And I was so proud. The story was about a little girl who didn't wear her helmet when riding. Precious. Well, that little gem of a book got me to thinking. Books and writing are such important parts of my life. And so many of our children love horse books. So why not write their own?!?
Between now and the CLS Holiday Party on  Saturday, Dec. 12th, we're holding a writing contest at CLS. There are no rules for entry, no guidelines. We simply want our babies to write, and draw, and express themselves on paper.  ALL of the submissions will be on display during the party. And the winning book will be scanned and published in our newsletter. This author of the winning entry also will have their work framed and on display in the CLS office.  CLS staff members will be the judges.
Please, please, encourage your child to participate, regardless of age! We will collect the books in the CLS office. The deadline is the December 1st.

Pictured above: At ASHAV, Jake Butts and his grandmother flew up Interstate 81 in a race to make it in time for his class. In the meantime, barn pal Sarah Martin had borrowed riding silks and was pacing at the warm-up ring -- ready to catch-ride Jake's pony, which she'd never before stepped foot on! Jake made it just in the nick of time, after changing into his show silks, helmet and gloves going 85 mph down the highway! He went on to be the unanimous choice of the judges to win the Road Pony Under Saddle Class!
