Elaina's wonderful surprised face!
A Note from Parker -- 5.28.09
There are easier ways to make a living, for sure. But the look on Elaina Bullard's face in Raleigh above when the announcer called out her name for First Place reminds me why running Cash Lovell Stables & Riding Academy is the best job in the world!

Results from the Asheville Lions Club Show
ashley's big winUnanimous!  That was the buzz word for the Cash Lovell Stables team in Asheville, where there were THREE judges! If a rider received all three judges votes for first place, then the win was Unanimous! Ask Ashley Stewart all about it! Ashley, and her new pony, The Admiral's Genie were the Unanimous victors in both their classes! And the rest of the gang did mighty well, also!

jockey rider51.  That's how many Championships, Reserve Championships or Top Three honors the Cash Lovell Riders earned at the Raleigh Spring Premier Horse Show.

Stunning. A truly remarkable showing from a truly remarkable team. Just ask Sarah Martin. She was surprised by her grandmother, Glenda Vogler, with her dream horse, CH Hayden Fox, during the Raleigh Show. In fact, Sarah wasn't the only one surprised. Her mom, Penny Martin, didn't know either!  Way to surprise the horse with ribbongirls, Glenda! We were all awash in tears of joy!!!

Fall Fun Show Date Set
fallfunshowThe CLS Fall Fun Show date has been set (well, tentatively)!  Please mark your calendars for September 12th.

During the March CLS Fun Show (where has the time gone?!), our children rode their hearts out -- and raised close to $3,000 for the barn's favorite charities to boot!

Thank you to everyone who helped in big and small ways. Special thanks to Haley Rutledge and Emily Moorefield.  These girls each raised over $450.00. Thanks to Bill Semans (our ringmaster) and Doug Bassett (our announcer, who may need a Zyrtek next time) and everyone else who helped to make the show a success.  We certainly thank our esteemed judge, Sheri Brandl, of Equitate LLC in Oconomowoc, WI. Sheri did an amazing job, and we all learned bunches! Sheri promises to return to CLS. And in the meantime, we're sharing ideas and enjoying our new friendship. And that, after all, is what this sport is really all about!

young rider with hands upA note about age and safety:  Many Moms and Dads wonder if their child is too little for riding lessons and if it's safe to start riding at such an early age. Truth is, many of our top academy and show riders did start when they were tiny Little Tots. A safety is our #1 concern. All of the riders in our Little Tots program are supervised every second when they are on or near a horse. They'll have a great time in a safe, loving atmosphere.
Fee:  $260.00
To sign up:  please call the barn or e-mail Charlene at parklv9@aol.com.  This is the perfect introductory camp for kids who love horses and are ready to ride!

Notes from a Road Trip
Parker, Kathryn, Cashlyn and Sarah Martin drive 1,500 miles in 3 days
car in the mudAnd that's nothing.
On our trip last month to Missouri, Ms. Parker got us stuck in the mud making an "almost legal" U-Turn. Ms. Jeanine was along for that trip. Yes, Jeanine. We know. You told us not to do it . . .

Horse people are notorious for taking road trips. We live on fast food, the adrenaline from seeing (and sometimes riding!) amazing horses we see along the way, and text messages from our buddies stuck at home.  We meet and ride with famous riding instructors from around the country. And we sleep in what Ms. Parker dubs "roach motels."

Builds character, kids. Trust me . . . And don't forget. What happens on the road, stays on the road!
A Crazy B-day Celebration for Kathryn
kathryngroupshotThanks to her many well-wishers at the JD Massey Show, Ms. Kathryn had a grand celebration of her 30th birthday!

Between Kathryn's birthday -- complete with Depends undergarments -- and poor Buggs having his head stitched, it was really a wild afternoon!
Saddle Surprises!
syndey with new saddlenew saddle!

Longtime Lovell's Little Bit, Sydney Cearley, and  Sharon Wilson share something in common. Both were surprised recently with Shively MMX saddles!  Congratulations ladies!!

A little note on these saddles:  the Shively MMX was designed by legendary equitation great Lillian Shively. It's considered the Cadillac of saddles.  In her 70s now, and still teaching champion riders, we met Lillian at her farm in Indiana on a recent road trip (see above!) She told CLS Instructor Ms. Kathryn, "Watching how others are teaching is OK. But in the end, do it your own way. Make them want to copy you!" That's the spirit!

One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from Lillian Shively:
"The only time in life when you start out on top is when you're digging a hole."

This Little Bit is All Grown Up
lauren on piperDiane's Beach Ride

When Lovell's Little Bit, Lauren Riggins, came to Cash Lovell Stables, she was 7 years old. Yes, that handsome man in the photo (left) is my one and only, Piper.  Well, this month that little girl turned 16! Stab me through the heart! Stomp me dead! My babies are growing up!

Please enjoy the photos of then and now. And please, tease her mercilessly.

Happy Sweet 16th Lauren!

bill with grillSince so many people use Google these days, we figured we should ask if some of you all might write a positive review for CLS! If you have a minute and (hopefully something great to say!) please, click here and write a little something. We'd be mighty grateful! Thanks!
Photo here:  our esteemed Grill Master! Thanks, Bill! And yes, Bill, we know. Real men wear Lilly Pulitzer!
