 Reflexions Extra Jun 2011

Following the success of two trial editions, the AoR are pleased to announce the official launch of a new, exclusive online supplement to your Reflexions magazine called Reflexions Extra.

Staying safe on Facebook and Twitter

Twitter logoAs many of you are aware, the AoR have recently entered the world of Social Media. Many of you have joined us there - however, the AoR Facebook logowill always hold members' safety and privacy as being of paramount importance - so with this in mind, we have produced another 'How to' guide on maintaining privacy on Facebook.

A fantastic site for learning the basics of how to use Social Media safely can be found at http://thinkuknow.co.uk/11_16/control/social-networking/. Although it's aimed at keeping children and young people safe, it's a brilliant introductory guide to potential hazards for anyone on Social Media. It's well worth a read!

We'd like to express our thanks to Karen H, one of our members, for her advice and support on this topic.

ASA Update - keeping you in the loop

ASA logo

No further bad news in this newsletter thankfully, but we would just like you all to know that we are working together with other organisations to put a case to the ASA regarding the current situation. We believe there is empowerment in collaboration and will be requesting a meeting with the ASA in due course.

As an aside, this is what happened when a crystal therapist stood her ground regarding a complaint from the ASA. As you can see the adjudication was upheld but they have few sanctions. However, this doesn't mean the complainant will necessarily be satisfied.

Thinking of writing something for December's edition of Reflexions?

We know the long, hot days of summer are with us at the moment - however, we are aware just how quickly winter can creep up on us, so we're letting you all know the deadline for your Chrismas articles now!

The main theme of the edition will be reflexology and older people: do you treat older people at a nursing home or in their homes? Do you have tips and tales to share? Then please do write in with your stories and hints for other members - you never know, it could be your article in the next edition of the magazine or online supplement!

The deadline for December's edition of Reflexions has been moved to 7th September 2011, in order to make sure that you receive your Christmas edition early: we are hoping that the Christmas edition of Reflexions will be with members at the end of November so you have a chance to read it before the mad Christmas rush starts.

 The Economist poll

As we informed you last time, the Economist is running a survey on whether research into complementary medicine is a waste of time. There is still time to place your votes, but so far the result is a resounding 'NO' with 85% of voters believing this is not the case. This is very useful as it can be used to back up funding applications.

If you haven't voted, please do so at :
