Green Gables Photography
Spotlight Client for September
Myron and Rita Bursell opened the doors for Green Gables Photography in 1983. They have been photographing families, weddings, high school seniors and more for all those years. They are entering into the "Then & Now" phase of their business this year photographing the wedding of a young man whose mother's senior portraits and wedding Myron photographed way back then. One of this year's seniors reminded Myron of the baby portraits of all her siblings that hang in their home along with family portraits that he photographed over the years. Located in north Spokane, Green Gables Photography does indoor studio photography and has an outdoor studio lot to add outdoor looks for seniors and small families. They also photograph on location. Families have had them come to nicely landscaped homes in town, family lake places and homes in the country as well as Spokane's beautiful Arboretum. There is always variety. Rita says sometimes being a photographer is like having a back stage pass. Myron has been in a Silver Mining Company in
Coeur d 'Alene, at political events, inside the Spokane Convention Center when huge duct work was installed, in a Superior Courtroom to photograph a Defense Team and really back stage- at a Magic Show Performance. Myron and Rita are life long Spokane Residents. Not only do they believe in serving the community with their talent in photography, but Myron was just elected President of the Spokane Lilac Festival, committed to promoting our community and honoring our military.

Back-to-school: A great time to review homeowners & auto coverage
College is expensive enough without finding out too late that an accident or theft isn't covered under the policies of the student's parents. So, as college students return to school this fall, there's one vital "to-do" for parents to add to their list: a review of their insurance coverage .
Homeowners coverage highlights:
Personal Property: Most home policies provide 10% of coverage C for students away at college. That means that if the contents of the policyholder's home are insured for $100,000, the dependent student's property in their dormitory would be covered up to $10,000, subject to the same coverages and exclusions on the parents' policy.
Liability: Generally, damage to a dorm room or apartment would not be covered.
Ensuring adequate coverage: Create an inventory of the items the student is taking to school, and keep photos or video and receipts for the items.
Special Student Personal Property Coverage:
Aside from the coverage under the parents' homeowners policy, parents or students may wish to purchase separate Student Personal Property Coverage. This is a low-cost policy that will allow parents to keep any claims off of their homeowner's policy, and at a much lower deductible than the homeowner's policy. Visit this link on the Fidelity Associates website for more information: Affordable student property insurance
Auto coverage highlights:
Coverage without a car at school: If the student will continue to drive while at home on school breaks, they should continue to be listed on the auto policy. If they are not taking a vehicle with them while away at school, they may qualify for a distant-student discount.
Coverage with a car at school: In most cases, a car on the parents' policy will be covered while used by the student while away at school, but let your agent know if your child is taking a car with them.
Driving a friend's car at school: students generally would be covered while driving a friend's car if they are still listed on their parents' policy, and do not have regular use of the friend's vehicle.
Discounts: In addition to the distant-student discount mentioned above, students may qualify for a good-student discount. |
Journal of Business supports Workers' Comp Initiative 1082
From "The Journal's View" - Opinion page August 26, 2010:
Vote yes on I-1082 to alter workers' comp
We urge Spokane area-businesses and residents to support initiative 1082 in this year's general election.
The initiative would allow private insurance companies to offer workers' compensation policies in our state in competition with the Washington state Department of Labor and Industries. Washington is one of just four states where private insurers are prohibited from writing such policies, but any bureaucracy can benefit from competition, and that includes L&I.
L&I often comes in for criticism, but some of the fixes to problems in our state's workers compensation system require action by elected officeholders, and they have been unwilling to take it. One example is Washington's highest-in-the-nation rate of awarding lifetime permanent disability pensions.
