Welcome to the 37th MCM
Thank you runners for contributing to an amazing, exhilarating record-breaking sell out of the 37th MCM.  In only two hours and 41 minutes, runners grabbed all 30,000 spots for the October 28 event.  The previous MCM registration record occurred last year, when all slots sold out in 28 hours.  Way to pick up the pace!  Now that you are in, be sure to maintain a commitment to training, become a fan of the MCM on Facebook, track the event chatter on Twitter and stay involved by regularly visiting the website.  Lots of exciting announcements and important information to be shared in the upcoming months.

Runner Resources

An impressive 32 percent of the 2012 MCM database of runners is comprised of first time marathoners. An even greater percentage of the field includes first time MCMers. To best prepare runners for MCM Weekend, the MCM will release helpful and essential information over the website, through e-newsletters, on Facebook, in the digital event program, via video and in online presentations. Be sure to take advantage of these resources. Enjoy revisiting the 2011 event program.

Possible Minor Changes in 2012

Construction in the area surrounding the Pentagon may prompt a minor course adjustment at mile 23 that would send runners along the east side of the Pentagon rather than the long-standing route past the building's west side. Pending construction status, the change will not be finalized until later this summer. Runners should still take time during this training cycle to become familiar with course timing requirements including the 14 minute pace-per-mile, the Gauntlet and Beat the Bridge.

Registration to Confirmation

Be sure to save and file the confirmation email you received at completion of the registration process. This email has the info necessary to download your E-confirmation card in September. The E-confirmation card is required to retrieve race materials at Packet Pick-up, part of the Health and Fitness Expo on October 25-27 at the DC Armory.
Transfer and Deferment Details
The MCM has two unique programs, distinguishing its commitment to the runners from other similar events. After registering, some runners ultimately decide they are unable participate in the 37th MCM. These runners may opt to transfer their entry to a non-registered runner through the event's unique Transfer Program. Registered runners have until late August to transfer an entry by submitting an online transfer form. The transfer form (available from June to August) is available on the Register menu of the MCM website. Another option is to hold on to an entry but defer participation from 2012 to 2013. The deferment form will be available on the MCM website starting in August. Both services charge a $30 fee.

More Mall on All New MCM10K Course

The hugely popular MCM10K adds more Mall to the 6.2 mile course in 2012. By shifting the start to the opposite side of the National Mall to the intersection of Madison and 12th Streets, the course now includes sights such as the US Capitol, National Museum of American Indian, National Gallery of Art and Hirshhorn Museum before heading to Arlington and the Marine Corps War Memorial finish. Registration opens on April 4 and holds a spot for those not already committed to the MCM.

MCM Hotel Desk Offers Great Deals

Registration is locked on.  Training has begun.  Last thing runners want to worry about is where they are going to sleep during MCM Weekend.  Runners are encouraged to book a hotel now.  Consider if you want to be more convenient to Metro or close to the MCM shuttles in Crystal City or near the Expo in DC or proximity of the finish in Rosslyn. Even those runners who live in the DC Metro Area should consider reserving a room to eliminate the possible pitfalls of DC area traffic in the early hours of October 28.  The Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill serves as the HQ Hotel and hosts several MCM Weekend events while offering continuous shuttle service to the Health and Fitness Expo.

Run for a Cause with MCM Charity Program
Some runners weren't fast enough to get in on the registration frenzy and got shut out of the MCM.  Fear not.  This is a marathon, not a sprint.  Spots in the 37th MCM are still available by registering with one of the MCM Charity Partners.  Join a charity team to assist in raising funds and awareness by training for and completing the MCM.  It is an opportunity to turn a big accomplishment into something even bigger and run for causes like Marines support, health initiatives, research efforts and countless more deserving initiatives.
