ed1stop
ed1stop connects educators, students, and parents to quality online resources in one stop.  The ed1stop portal is a personal gateway to both subscription-based services and free education Web sites that have been purposefully selected to help teachers meet state standards. Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE)
FREE is a Web site from the U.S. Department of Education that offers teaching and learning resources, such as lesson plans, primary documents, science visualizations, math challenges, literary works, paintings, music manuscripts, and many other teaching aids, all organized around a list of 500 educational topics.  Sources include the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, National Science Foundation, NASA, National Archives, and many other federal agencies.

Earn It!  Keep It!  Save It!   (EKS)
(EKS) is a free income tax preparation service for Contra Costa County residents.  They have 37 free tax preparation sites throughout the county. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites focus on providing services to residents with a household income of less than $52,000 in 2009.  Their Tax Counseling for the Elderly sites, run by AARP, offers the free service regardless of income.  Last year 298 IRS certified volunteers provided free tax preparation for 8,657 residents who received over $8.6 million in federal tax refund dollars.

PBS Teachers   
PBS Teachers is a Web portal for pre-K thru 12-grade educators.  Through this site, teachers can access thousands of free lesson plans, local and national educator resources, teacher professional development, videos, blogs, and much more.

Cell Phone Alert Program
The Community Warning System (CWS) of the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff offers a cell phone alert program.  This program allows cell phone users to be notified of hazardous material incidents and other emergencies that pose an imminent threat to life or health.  Users can tailor the alerts they receive to specific areas in the county.  You can register your cell phone by simply going to their Web site and submitting your cell phone number and county locations you are interested in keeping tabs on.

Drama Workshops
The Berkeley Repertory Theatre has developed a wide range of new free and low-cost outreach classes to Bay Area schools that covers multiple California content standards through hands-on, dynamic workshops. Whether bringing dramatic text to life or developing students' original work, their professional teaching artists help students to expand their creative potential by challenging them to explore complex ideas and universal themes in literature and life. Using theatre arts techniques that encourage teamwork and ensemble-building, students will gain self-confidence and understand not only the importance of human connection, but the joy of dynamic engagement with their creativity.

Grants / Scholarships
The Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust Fund
The Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust Fund annually distributes three separate $10,000 grants to outstanding teachers.  The Trust will select nominees who exhibit extraordinary commitment of personal time and energy on behalf of their students.  Teachers can self-nominate, or be nominated by an administrator, colleague, or student.  The award may be used in any manner the recipient wishes.

Healthy Schools Program Grants
The Alliance for Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools Program is offering seed grants of up to $4,000 to schools coupled with ongoing support in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and staff wellness over the next three Years.

College Offers Opportunities for Life (COOL) Nite is a special evening for middle-school students and their families to learn about the students' transition into high school, as well as opportunities for college and careers.

Career-Focused Summer Camps Looking for Teachers
The CCCOE and the Contra Costa Economic Partnership (along with numerous professional partners) will once again be producing three outstanding hands-on education career camps, offered to incoming high school juniors and seniors this summer.  The week-long camps are looking for teachers to support student learning.  Instructors will earn professional development hours and a small stipend for each camp, while also being exposed to a full range of industry experts.  The camps are scheduled for these dates: Construction and Engineering, June 21-25, Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill; Biotechnology, July 12-16, CSUEB, Concord; Environmental Sciences, July 26-30; CSUEB, Concord.

Supervisor Glover's Contra Costa County Youth Summit
Each year the Youth Summit unites sixth- through twelfth-grade youth with local dignitaries, youth mentors, and community leaders for a day of career preparedness, self-awareness, and entertainment.  The annual event is a community effort to build healthy attributes such as self-esteem, honesty, and integrity. Their goal is to assist our students in constructing the foundation they need to succeed by equipping them with assets that will enhance their personal and social standards. The interactive workshops provided at the Summit will increase life skills, assist with career development, and provide a venue for healthy and appropriate activities that reduce the risk of undesirable behavior.

Foster Youth Community College Education Summit
Foster youth, ages 15 to 19 years old, and their caregivers are invited to an information day about local community colleges and vocational programs.  Attendees will learn about the college's foster youth services and resources at the college, the college experience, and entrance requirements.  There will also be a tour given of the campus.  In addition, an early dinner will be served to all who come out, and a $50 Target gift card will be given to eligible foster youth attendees.

Contra Costa Public Information Network (CCPIN)
How to Get the Media to Work for You is the topic of the upcoming CCPIN presentation.  This free professional-development program will focus on how to improve your organization's media relations.  The presentation will feature Julie Freestone, assistant to the health services director, Contra Costa Health Services.

Affordable Computer Training
Looking to sharpen up your computer skills?  The Regional Occupation Program's (ROP) Pleasant Hill Training Center continues to offer full- and part-time Microsoft Office and Web Design and Development classes to all adults and high school students who live anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Whether you are new to computers or an experienced computer professional, the CCCOE's ROP Technology Center has a program for you, at a very reasonable price.
