FEDERAL LSC FUNDING AT RISKARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPH BY ERIC GONZALEZ
The Equal Justice Coalition (EJC) travelled to D.C., during April, with a dedicated group of supporters to meet with Washington State's Congressional delegation and to advocate for increased federal funding and flexibility for Legal Services Corporation (LSC).
The team included Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) President Steve Crossland, Washington State Supreme Court Chief Justice Barbara Madsen, LSC Board member and partner at Davis Wright Tremaine Harry Korrell, EJC Chair and former WSBA President Stan Bastian, Seattle attorney and American Bar Association (ABA) Young Lawyers Division Board Member Mike Pellicciotti, Northwest Justice Project Executive Director César Torres, Legal Foundation of Washington Executive Director Caitlin Davis Carlson, and EJC Director Eric González Alfaro.
The visit was in coordination with ABA Days, an annual gathering of leaders from around the U.S. to advocate on three primary focus issues set by the American Bar Association; the three for 2012 were the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Court Fee Interception Act, and Legal Services Corporation funding.

REFERENDUM ON WSBA DUES UPDATE
ARTICLE BY WSBA PRESIDENT STEVE CROSSLAND
As perhaps you all know by now the Referendum to "roll back" the license fees from $450 to $325 passed on April 6th. Since that time the WSBA Board of Governors (BOG), Officers and Staff have been diligently responding in a thoughtful and thorough way.
The net effect of the referendum is that the revenues from license fees will be $3.6 million less in budget year 2012-2013. The Board of Governors and staff are considering a number of options to deal with that lost revenue. The elements being considered are using reserves and cutting or otherwise reducing staff and programs.
