BOONE EDC ANNUAL MEETING

Governor: "We Need More Boone Counties"

Despite many obstacles one thing is for sure - it's been a great four  years, said Boone County Economic Development Corp. executive director Dax Norton at the organization's annual meeting Wednesday at Eagle Church in Whitestown.

Norton said the county's success was in part due to Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels who made Indiana a better state to live in and do business.

Daniels, who served as the meeting's keynote speaker, highlighted accomplishments from his tenure in office to an audience of more than 100 people.

Daniels was given a heart-wrenching introduction by Mickey Webster, a Skjodt-Barrett Foods employee who was grateful to find a job at the food company after losing her previous job of 20 years.

Mike Martin Receives National Recognition

Lebanon Utilities General Manager Mike Martin was recently recognized nationally for his dedication to public power. The American Public Power Association (APPA) awarded Martin the Honor Roll Award, which recognizes those who have made significant local contributions to public power.

Martin has been Lebanon's commissioner to its wholesale power provider, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA), for 10 years, and was the Board of Commissioner's chairman from 2008-2011. Martin was awarded the honor because he exhibited great performance in all of the award's categories - contributions toward enhancing prestige of APPA in the nation, as well as how long he has been involved with IMPA.

Martin has been Lebanon Utilities' general manager for 10 years, and has been actively involved with IMPA - sitting on the executive committee, presenting at national APPA conferences and attending the annual legislative rally to promote the value of public power.

City Plans for Future Development on I-65

The city of Lebanon is moving forward in creating a land use plan for the former Quality Inn property and an adjacent 600 acres along Interstate 65 at Indiana 39. The Lebanon City Council, the Redevelopment Commission, the Storm Water Board held a special joint meeting Monday afternoon at the Lebanon Municipal Building at discuss creating a plan.

Lebanon Mayor Huck Lewis called the meeting to get a sense of how each entity felt about the proposal of hiring American StructurePoint to survey the land and come up with a plan for what it calls "good development."

"I think this is one of the single most important things as far as economic development for the future of Lebanon," Lewis said. "And I think it's critical time to do it." Read more....
