BOONE ECONOMY
Two Local Firm Will Add Nearly 200 Jobs
Two companies in Lebanon Business Park have announced they plan to create nearly 200 jobs by the end of summer.
Skjodt-Barrett Contract Packaging LLC, which manufactures organic baby food and fruit snacks pouches for several brands, said it will add 150 jobs at its Lebanon facility.
United States Cold Storage plans to hire 40 more workers by the end of July because of increasing demand.
"This is great news for USCS and the Lebanon community."
Wages for the jobs will range from $13 to $17 per hour, said Dax Norton, director of the Boone County Economic Development Corp.
"I think we'll see some more good news out of U.S. Cold Storage," Norton hinted.
Skjodt-Barrett has invested approximately $15 million to acquire and renovate a 215,000 square-foot building, beginning production in November 2011 with 25 employees. That number hit 100 in May, and the total of full-time and temporary workers is expected to top 300 by September 2012, two years ahead of schedule. Read more....

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
New Construction Coming to Anson
Boone County will have a new speculative building in AllPoints at Anson by January 2013. Now all that's needed is a tenant.
Duke Realty plans to build a 598,000 square-foot structure at the corner of County Road 400 South and County Road 400 East near the Amazon building. The building can be expanded to 1.1 million square feet.
The Boone County Commissioners approved tax incentives for the building Monday because the site is in a tax increment finance district. The Whitestown Town Council gave its approval of the tax abatement last Tuesday.
Dax Norton, executive director of the Boone County Economic Corp., said, "we're excited to have such an investment made by a private developer." Norton has often raised the point that Boone County needs move-in ready commercial space. Read more....
