United Way Welcomes Snyder

Lebanon - A new executive director started her position at the United Way of Boone County this week, as the agency is gearing up to celebrate last year's  fundraising campaign.

Christie Snyder officially started her new position Monday, taking the place of former executive director Jill Troha, who is now working for the United Way of Hamilton County.

Troha will introduce Snyder at the annual campaign celebration at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 18th, at Boone Meadow School, to which the public is invited.

"We'll introduce Christie while we celebrate last year's successes, and look forward to future successes for the next year under her new direction," Troha said. Read more.....

Zionsville Town Council
Council Hopes to Get Private Funds for Ice Rink Study
The Indiana Ice hockey team is looking for a new home, and Boone County may be it.
The Zionsville Town Council is considering the feasibility of a 3,000 - to 4,000 seat ice rink and multi-purpose facility near Interactive Academy, 3795 U.S. 421. The Ice will not have a home next year because of renovations to its current home at the Pepsi Coliseum.
"That problem would be remedied by this project," said Dax Norton, executive director of the Boone County Economic Development Corp., who added that Indiana Ice owner Paul Skjodt asked him about the potential ice rink project.
"Skjodt has talked with a potential land owner," Norton said.
Norton said the Ice has approached other communities about building a new home.
"Zionsville is in the mix." he said. "They are also looking at Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and several other communities in the area. We want to be in the mix." Read more....

Lebanon Donates Items From Former Quality Inn to Tornado Relief Efforts

Lebanon - Department heads and others volunteers from all city of Lebanon offices put on their jeans and tennis shoes Tuesday morning to load up a semi trailer with all the usable items remaining in the abandoned Quality Inn hotel on Indiana 39.

The items - like coffee makers, hair dryers, alarm clocks, lamps, irons, desks, bed frames, tables and dressers - were loaded up and driven down to Jeffersonville in southern Indiana to be distributed to the victims  of the March 2 tornado outbreak.

"It's little things, but stuff that people need," said Lebanon Fire Chief  Ted Caldwell. "It will give them a little peace of mind to let them have a few necessities."

Purity Wholesale Grocers donated the 53-foot trailer, a semi tractor, a driver, the fuel, a forklift, pallets, pallet jacks and shrink wrap to deliver the items to Jeffersonville. The items will then be distributed in Henryville.  Read more.....
