| Downtown Kokomo Project Receives Tax Credits
The Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority has awarded more than $900,000 in tax credits for a $9 million revitalization project in a downtown Kokomo neighborhood. Dayton-based St. Mary Development Corporation will lead construction on a three-story housing complex.

USDA Seeks Applications for Rural Economic Development
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced on March 5th that USDA is seeking applications for loans and grants to help rural businesses create jobs and spur economic development. The funding is being provided under the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDLG) program.

Kokomo to Launch Night School
Officials Monday unveiled their plans for Kokomo Twilight School, which will allow high schoolers to attend night classes to graduate. Kokomo Twilight School will benefit traditional students, too. Those students can use the school at night for tutoring and to work on projects that require computers or Internet use, Barnes said.

Workers in Demand, Skills in Short Supply
Dennis Winslow points to a stack of resumes in his office. He's read through plenty of them and found seemingly decent people desperate for work. Often, their education and work experience impress, but there's one glitch. Winslow needs to hire machinists, quality control inspectors and such for his factory. Not experienced salespeople, office personnel and educators.

IEDC Web Seminar: Economic Development in a Digital World
Small businesses are the base of our national economy. To survive a recession, new strategies focusing on supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses are required. This web seminar will explore how economic developers can better incorporate home based workers and businesses into their local economy. It will also explore how we can now access our offices virtually, which means workers no longer need to live in the same region as their business.

Duke Realty Piles Up Awards
Duke Realty was named Developer of the Year by the Indiana chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), and walked away with another top award and was runner-up in the same category. During the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Indianapolis' TOBY (The Office Building of the Year) awards, Duke Realty was recognized for the operations and management of two of its properties. And Duke Realty's construction team was awarded the General Contractor's Project of the Year award by the Indiana Subcontractor's Association (ISA) for the expansion of Building 1 at AllPoints at Anson for Amazon.com |
