The original 'German'

Brahms' beloved Requiem gets
four-handed treatment in Westwood

Two choirs, two pianists, two soloists and two conductors -- no ark required.  Sunday's forthcoming performance of 'A German Requiem' by Johannes Brahms will not soon be forgotten.  With the combined forces of the UCLA community's University Campus Choir and the Chancel Choir from Westwood United Methodist Church, conductors Alex Ruggieri and Gregory Norton will direct one of the most moving masterworks in the choral repertoire, accompanied by the pianistic artistry of Haesung Park and Peter Fennema.  The concert features vocal soloists Lucine Marukyan (soprano) and Edward Levy (bass), and will offer an opportunity to experience the composer's own, rarely-heard arrangement for piano duet.  The concert is free, including secure, covered parking in the structure next to the church (below Belmont Village).

LAURI D GOLDENHERSH's Weekly Highlights

NOTE: It's June!  As CCMN goes into their annual every-other-week phase, we'll do the same after two more issues: we'll put out Next 7, covering two weeks each, in the weeks that Jim is "dark".  This means that we need your event information earlier, so we can make sure we get you into the newsletter!  Please send any listings including classical vocalists to events.la@laurislist.com, so we can load your information asap.  This reduced schedule will continue into September.

In the meantime, make sure you and your friends are subscribed to BOTH Next 7 and CCMN, so you'll get one or the other each week through the summer, and you can stay in the loop.

To subscribe to the Clickable Chamber Music Newsletter from the South Bay, send an email to Jim Eninger at jeninger@earthlink.net
