From the "Couldn't Resist" files... As Hannukah winds down (Wednesday is the last night) and dreidel drinking games subside, get a truly surreal taste of the history behind the festival of lights with (yes, really) The Maccabeats, an a cappella group from Yeshiva University that's surprisingly good, and well above par for the average college-sponsored boy band.
The hook: If you've ever listened to NKOB or N'sync and wished they'd slap yarmulkes on their heads, flip latkes and fight off the Greeks with aluminum foil weapons (come on, you know you have...), your dreams have come true. The video itself is the real reason we're including this info here: it's well put together, and a great example of strong production on a shoestring. (OK, it's a pretty catchy tune, too.) Their YouTube video has gone viral, and their online campaign to get booked on The Colbert Report has been creative, to say the least. (Ah, to be in college again...study, schmudy!) Chag sameach!
