Farewell, BravuraVox Online singer community packs it in
BravuraVox announced in their forums on Thursday that they're hanging up their hats, and the site will be dismantled this week. Founded and run by soprano Felicity Graham, a New York soprano who started the site in January 2007, the online community served up lively discussion, reviews, resource links, etc. to classical singers from far and wide. The chatty tone and crowdsourced style defined this welcome addition to the online world that serves classical vocalists. One of the most unique features was 'The Singer's Kitchen', a recipe-sharing portal that offered readers a chance to share their favorites.
The site has been plagued by spammers over the last year or so, and forums and administrative notes show that considerable effort was put into making it a safe, active cybercenter for singer networking and sharing of information. An announcement posted on June 1st indicates that new updates were in place for additional security, clearly indicating the intention to continue at that point. But there has been little site activity since then.
BravuraVox's readership is small but devoted, like ours, and several nice notes have been added to the forum announcement, kind thoughts from readers sorry to see the site's demise. Such endeavors are very difficult to maintain, and we wish Felicity and her team all the best in their future projects.
Buona fortuna, amici!
