Happy  July 4th!
Did you get some time off?

Whether you're a full-time or part-time artist, juggling a day job or a fully freelance life, taking a real holiday can be one of the hardest things to commit to.  Hopefully, you had some fun and some "reset" time over the last few days.  If not, make a commitment to take at least a half-day for yourself this month.  Plan it ahead, so you can look forward to it.  Make it sacred time, and enjoy!  Here are so ideas for your date with your creative self:

Start a new book.  You can always learn something useful, but there's a crucial escape factor involved here.  How about (perhaps vaguely) music-themed novels about divas, massage, murder, Castrati, terrorists or the famous guy's sister

Pick a museum -- any museum.  Great exhibits abound this summer, from mummies to paintings to butterflies to women's suffrage to Hopper to a fantastical spouting fountain, and that's just LA.

Live in the OC?  How about clay, headhunters (the kind without the power suits), sawdust, and everything gross?

Have just an hour? Sit in the shade with a glass of iced tea.  You can get fancy at your local shop or your favorite ritzy hotel (since it's just tea, it won't break the bank).  Or, go homemade.  Sometimes, solitude and tasty beverages are the best restorative bliss.  Don't read, don't talk.  Just sit and sip.  Maybe count some leaves.

Need more?  Check out The Artist's Date Book from Julia Cameron.  Make this a treat that's also a habit, and save your sanity!

Relax and enjoy!
