Singing green
Vocalists do Earth Day, all year round

In the ongoing search for small ways to make a difference, here are a few ideas particularly suited to the environment-savvy songbird.  They might also have an pleasant plumping impact on your wallet:

Beverage wranglers:  Have you found the perfect eco-friendly water bottle?  How about a commuter mug, so you don't have to use paper or styrofoam cups at every coffee run?

Mark it up:
Mechanical pencils are ideal for rehearsals, but disposable plastic carries a high price in the long run.  Refillable pencils write better, are easier to erase, and are cheaper in the long run.

Love your car:
Ridesharing, good auto maintenance and planning your errands around gigs can make a major difference in your gas bill and the wear-and-tear on your car.  With MTA expanding further in the next two years, we'll have even more options...

Road food:
Have you crunched the numbers on your fast food habit?  'Tis is the season to spend a little on a lunch box or cooler you love, and save a bundle each week by toting your own meals and munchies.  Eat better, spend less, and produce less waste in the bargain.

Copying and printing:  By using a GPS or phone apps like Google Maps, you can save ink and paper when you need directions.  Keeping track of your music reduces the need for extra copies, and sending info via email and text uses less paper all around.

This "focus on green" will be a semi-regular feature, and we'll offer new ideas at least every couple of months.  Got ideas?  Any favorite solutions to share?  Send them to us, so we can include them in the next installment (and give you credit, of course!!
