The controversy is heating up

With American Idol entering its ninth! season, Glee topping the ratings on TV and on Hulu, and the British reality series, 'Popstar to Operastar' scoring negative feedback from a variety of sources, the act of singing in almost any style has become fodder for heated discussion.

Today, two Listers posted opposite reactions to 'Glee' on  Facebook, and although alternative views were posted in  animated response, the non-fan stuck to her guns:  'What? GLEEE? That show is terrible!!!!!!!!'  Others either enjoy it or, like me, see some value in the attention it brings to singing in general.  This much is certainly true:  what with the outcry from trained singers in the UK against the new pop reality show (or are they just annoyed that Katherine Jenkins is teaching?) and the tremendous success of opera in movie theaters, there's a lot of cultural crossover going on, and it's obviously making some folks uncomfortable.

So, where do you stand?  We've posted a new poll on the website's main page, and we'd love to hear from you.  But, as writing a supposedly relevant poll can also result in leading and/or limiting the response, please take any additional thoughts to the Forums -- don't be limited by the choices we've offered!  I look forward to hearing from you...
