Greetings!
MarieCommemorationArt

As the project manager for the MARIECommemoration, I invite you to SAVE THE DATE and attend and/or support the MARIE Commemoration Event June 4-6, 2010 in Santa Barbara, CA.   This commemoration will honor the four Raytheon staff members and the other three men who lost their lives aboard the vessel MARIE in the waters off Santa Barbara, California in June of 1960.  The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, a 501c(3) non-profit organization, will host the event.
Fifty years is an appropriate period of time to honor the men lost aboard the MARIE and provide an opportunity for the community to remember an event that shook Santa Barbara.

Dr. Niel F. Beardsley, L. Dale Howell, Paul T. Lovette, Harold (Hal) H. Mackie, Jr. H. James (Jim) McCaffrey, James (Jim) C. Russell, Diego (Jim) S. Terres, Jr.

These seven men deserve to be honored for giving their lives while testing technology that eventually contributed mightily to our national security.  This event marking the MARIE tragedy's 50-year milestone will do just that.
Why do I think it is so important to remember the men lost on the MARIE?  Mainly because I have a "heart" issue in the topic.  My father, Diego "Jim" S. Terres Jr. was one of the Raytheon engineers that never came back from the ill-fated journey across the Santa Barbara Channel to the waters off Santa Cruz Island.
So I cordially invite you to attend or support this event.  Details will continue to be provided as the MARIE Commemoration draws near.

Have a hearty Valentines Day,

Collecting Story Heartbeats:
TNT_HeadShotWhat stories have delighted your heart?  Who have you shared the heartbeats of your life with?  Have you preserved the memories for your children?  How can you ensure the next generation is entertained, inspired and gained wisdom from your experiences?  Where do you keep your life's legacy of adventures?

How does the above relate to the MARIE Commemoration?  Well, as many of you already know, I've been recording people's memories about the MARIE incident to prepare for this summer's 50-year memorial.  Each story made my heart beat excitedly as I recorded and transcribed their remembrances.  My hope is that everyone whose heart was affected by the MARIE tragedy, that their story no matter how small or large, would take the opportunity to provide their piece before the memory is lost forever.  The men lost on the MARIE, their families, Santa Barbara community and the following generations deserve this mosaic that at long last tells the story of that fateful event.

I would like to hear from you and will give you full credit for any contribution you make to this vital project.  The ultimate destination for the body of information compiled is in an academic archive.  Currently the following institutions are being considered: University of California at Santa Barbara, Syracuse University, University of Chicago, Wright State University, and University of Arkansas.

Again, if you haven't already done so, let's make arrangements to add your heart's remembrances to this June's 50-year MARIE Commemoration event.  Contact me, Teresa, as soon as you can!  (Phone:  501-413-9092, Email:  MARIEevent@project-tnt.com, Mail:  5 Par Drive, Maumelle, Arkansas, 72113, Web: www.MARIEevent.com)
