Dear Friends of Sparky,
Last month's events were fun... the Barnes & Noble at The Grove reading & signing was awesome. Over 100 kids attended! Sparky pages were projected on a big screen above me as I read. I received great feedback from B&N, the children, and their parents. (Photos on My Blog). B&N has extended a special invitation for me to return later this month to read for over 200 kids!
Next was the event at Totz Only kids store in Burbank, 35 parents and their toddlers came for the reading!. Adorable store with some of the most unique toys I've seen in LA. (Photos on My Blog).
Lastly, at the Sparky Barnes & Noble book signing in Long Beach a lovely woman purchased an autographed Sparky the Wonderfish book for auction at "An Evening for Autism" Saturday, September 12, 2009, 6 p.m. - that makes me feel fantastic!
NOW EXCITING NEWS! I received an e-mail from MobiStories, digital picture books for children, saying, "Firstly, congratulations on what looks to be a fabulous book with gorgeous illustrations and impeccable reviews...your book would be a perfect match for what we're doing...What we're doing is making it possible for kids to read more often and more easily by giving them books in a format they use everyday, can take wherever they're going, and view on pretty much anything with a screen, from an iPod to a 60" HDTV"

Gillian Traveling to New Orleans!

Plans are solidifying for the "Sparky the Wonderfish: Hope & Literacy Tour, New Orleans", much is happening very fast... Gillian Lee Hutshing will be traveling to Arroyo Grande, California to visit with the artistic director for an internationally owned private school (September 4-6) together they will Plan details for the (September 13-18) trip to New Orleans this month. Gillian will also pick up the Sparky the Wonderfish Costume which has been custom made for Sparky's nationwide events.
September 13-18 Gillian will travel to New Orleans Parish for meetings and location scouts for the Sparky the Wonderfish: Hope & Literacy Tour and documentary. We are using this "story of how love creates magic" to help rebuild that hope & literacy along the New Orleans disaster areas. Our project is aimed toward the educational wants and needs of the children effected by these disasters. Sparky will reach 20 schools, 5 libraries and 2 hospitals. We also plan a Music Festival Fundraiser to conclude this tour in New Orleans Parish next year.
This SPARKY PROJECT will raise money to build at least one new green school and library. Upon completion of this project, Sparky will leave behind at that school and library an agenda for mentoring students to read & write for years to come!
Note: It has been Gillian Lee Hutshing's singular vision... that her book of 'love creating magic' would encourage literacy and give hope to kids... she is thrilled to see it earnestly taking hold!
