In Her Own Words: Linda Jones Clough on Her Father's Oil Paintings                                       Linda Jones Clough

My father, Chuck Jones, before he found fame directing animated films, received a traditional and exacting visual arts education at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.  Chouinard has been (and continues to be-now known as the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia) where many of the past century's great artists have sprung as filmmakers, painters, illustrators and draftsmen (and draftswomen, too!)

Throughout his long and productive life, he took great pleasure in the complex relationship between the artist, oil paint and canvas.  He painted wherever and whenever he traveled, making visual diaries of European vacations as well as closer to home-the coast and cities of California.  And of particular joy to him was his rendering of the cartoon characters he so lovingly brought to life on the silver screen.

Combining his considerable fine art skills with these characters resulted in a trove of treasures. These paintings bring many of his passions to fruition: his innate sense of composition, his well-timed gestural brushstroke, his love and understanding of color and, most importantly, his unbridled love of life-they all come together marvelously in each of these works of art.

What Happens at Drop In & Draw?
Every Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM, you and your children can, literally, Drop In & Draw at the Center. Led by the Center's resident teaching artist, Christopher Scardino, you'll soon find yourself making decisions about which shade of green should be used on a tree and whether or not glitter is appropriate for the roof of the house you're drawing. (The answer to that question is, glitter is appropriate for everything.) Your children will, of course, have known that all along.

In this short video, Christopher talks about Chuck Jones, creativity, art, and why children offer a unique perspective on the world.

stroke of genius
"I conceive Bugs to be a sort of counter-revolutionary rather than a revolutionary. He is for peace in his home; he refuses to be put upon; he insists, in effect, upon being treated as a citizen rather than a rabbit."

About Us
The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was founded in 1999 by the four-time Academy Award-recipient, legendary director and creator Chuck Jones. The Center is located in Orange County, California at South Coast Collection, just north of the 405 at Harbor Boulevard.

The Center's vision is to inspire the innate creative genius within each person that leads to a more joyous, passionate, and harmonious life and world.

In today's world, when arts education is practically non-existent, this is an important goal; we are dedicated to reinvigorating the creative spirit and we are doing it through art classes, exhibitions, lectures, and film festivals, all of which spring from the material in the Chuck Jones archive. Jones was a determined saver and his writings, art, and other ephemera from a nine-decade life along with his philosophy of guiding and nurturing instruction form the basis of our programs.
