YIPE! It's Your Birthday!
On May 25, 1946, Chuck Jones's "Hair-Raising Hare" debuted in theaters marking the first of only two appearances of the big, lump-headed orange monster, eventually named "Gossamer", during the Golden Age of Looney Tunes cartoons, the other being Jones's 1952 short cartoon, "Water, Water, Every Hare".
Gossamer, with his sneakers, and fear of large crowds, quickly became one of Jones's most memorable creations. Who among you does not remember, "You meet the most in-ter-resting people," purred by Bugs Bunny as he does the monster's nails and then his 'hair'. It is to laugh.
