Notes on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Was Made
Geisel Karloff Jones
"How to make a Christmas film without orthodox religion, without Santa Claus, without reindeer, snowmen, or the use of any of the classic carols?

"The answers, in reverse order, turned out to be these:

"Write our own new carols in Seussian Latin.  After all, "Fahoofores, Dahoodores" seems to have as much authenticity as "Adeste Fideles" to those untutored in Latin.  And the first carol--"Trim Up the Tree with Christmas Stuff"--was written in square-dance cadence by the talented Alber Hague, and orchestrated and conducted by the equally talented Eugene Poddany.  As to religion, the only line that might have come from the Scriptures, according to the networks, was "'Perhaps,' thought the Grinch, 'Christmas doesn't come from a store.'"  Better, far better, was:  "Christmas day will always be, just as long as we have we."  Poignant, but how lovely it would be if it were always ever so."  --Chuck Jones, Chuck Reducks
