Avoid Project Delays by Planning Ahead for New T1 Service
Kevin Jermyn, Senior Project Manager

Kevin Jermyn When planning for a new voice communications system at a new site or moving your current system to a different location, ordering a new T1 circuit is typically part of that plan.

It is critical to order new T1 circuits well in advance to ensure that your first day of business deadline is met. Some T1 vendors have a lead time of 45 business days from the time you initiate the order until they deliver the circuit to the site. A majority of delays in project plans are caused by T1 circuits being ordered too late to meet cutover deadlines.

Important PKI Certificate Refresh 2011-2014

avaya logo

Avaya uses industry-standard digital Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security certificates in many of its products to provide authentication and data encryption for communication links within its customer solutions. As an industry-standard security measure, PKI certificates expire after a period of time.

Beginning in July 2011, certificates will expire in certain releases of Avaya Aura® Communication Manager, Avaya Aura® SIP Enablement Services, Avaya Aura® Conferencing, IP Softphone, Avaya one-X® Desktop, SIP Phone, and earlier versions of Avaya Aura® Communication Manager Branch Edition (Distributed Office). If the PKI certificates are not updated prior to their expiration date, certain critical functions within these products will experience service outages. Make sure you check Avaya's prescribed update method and proactively update the certificates on applicable products.

Please note: Assistance is available for CCC ConvergeAssure® Customers (Avaya voice system maintenance) free of charge. Please contact the Customer Support Unit at 877.790.1222.

Check Avaya's prescribed update method and proactively update the certificates on your customers' products

Gartner Research:
Debunking the Myth of the Single-Vendor Network

Mark Fabbi & Debra Curtis, Gartner

Network InfrastructureGartner has collected information from hundreds of client interactions and has performed detailed interviews of nine organizations that have introduced a second vendor into their network environments. The findings show that most organizations should consider a dual-vendor or multivendor solution as a viable approach to building their network complexity, as significant cost savings are achievable with no increase in network complexity, while improving focus on meeting business requirements.

Unified Threat Management
How Much Money will You Lose in March?

March Madness 2011In March 2010, Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc., estimated U.S. companies could lose $1.8 Billion in unproductive wages in the first week of the 2010 March Madness tournament alone. This estimate is based on the number of people expected to participate in office pools, the amount of money they earn, and the amount of work-time wasted on March Madness related activities, whether it is trash talking at the water cooler or watching live videos of the games during business hours.

March Madness Brackets

While you may not be able to control the trash talk or employees checking game updates on personal smart phones, you can control the use of your company's Internet bandwidth. Web Content Filtering (WCF) built into every Fortinet FortiGate appliance can be programmed to monitor and/or eliminate the ability of your employees to use your business Internet connection to watch the bandwidth (and productivity) hogging live video streams of the tournament games.

Programming the WCF can be as broad as blocking by Internet category or as granular as allowing individual websites. It is all based on your organization's acceptable use policy.

To learn more about Web Content Filtering and all the the benefits of a Fortinet FortiGate protecting your network, contact your CCC Technologies' Representative or Mark Di Benedetto at 847.427.2354.

Backup and Recovery
Backup, Primary Deduplication, and Solaris ZFS

Mark Campbell, Unitrends | Modern Backup 2 Blog

Backup & RecoveryDeduplication is increasingly a standard option for disk-based backup (i.e., D2D backup.)  (Note: I have to say "option" because so many vendors charge extra for deduplication while other vendors sell deduplication devices that are dedicated to being the functionally partitioned "back end" of the actual backup system - which seems to me to be just plain wrong - but that's a different topic.)  However, deduplication being used in primary storage is more of an emerging phenomenon.

Managed Services

Onsite Managed Date Backup Service

CCC Technologies will provide support of an on-premise backup device including monitoring and verification of the integrity of the data per the backup schedule. In the event of an emergency and/or disaster situation, our engineers will work with you to implement the restore process and ensure that your organization is up and running withing the Service Level Agreement guidelines as set forth in your agreement.

Offsite Managed Data Vaulting

CCC Technologies will provide you access to our data center facility in which to electronically vault your data to the cloud as part of your business continuity/disaster recovery plan and/or for necessary compliance guidelines. CCC engineers will initially seed the offsite vault and send block changes over the WAN (Wide Area Network) moving forward to ensure storage of the most recent master backup. Should you have to declare a disaster, we will work with you to seed a new device and begin the restore process. Our data center is not only a Government rated Tier IV facility but also SAS 70, Sarbanes-Oxley, and HIPAA compliant.
