LEADERSHIP QUOTE-
The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision.

- Theodore Hesburgh

TOM'S JOKES

A couple were going out for the evening. They'd got ready, all dolled up, cat put out, etc.

The taxi arrives, and as the couple got out, the cat shoots back in. They don't want the cat shut in the house, so the wife goes out to the taxi while the husband goes upstairs to chase the cat out.

The wife, not wanting it known that the house will be empty explains to the taxi driver "He's just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother."

A few minutes later, the husband gets into the cab -"Sorry I took so long" he says, "Stupid old thing was hiding under the bed and I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out!"

FLP MESSAGE -
What Keeps Me Up At Night

Our What Keeps Me Up at Night event, which provides local community leaders with an opportunity to share their ideas, concerns and challenges with the FLP and Flagstaff communities, is set for Thursday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at Lowell Observatory. This highly entertaining and thought-provoking event is an excellent way for alumni to get caught up on current issues; it also provides community members with an opportunity to get a taste of what FLP is like prior to applying for the program.

This year, the focus of our What Keeps Me Up at Night event will be economy - both local and state-wide challenges - as well as our education system and the changes we're facing in that sector of the community. We look forward to sharing new ideas, explaining some of the current problems and hearing from the experts in these fields as they share with us important information.

What Keeps Me Up at Night is generously sponsored by Flagstaff Medical Center; the facility is provided to us courtesy of Lowell Observatory. Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us for this unique opportunity to learn about our local challenges and opportunities!

Recruitment

As an alum of the Flagstaff Leadership Program, we hope you have fond memories of the people you met, the experiences you had and the information you learned - all because you said yes and took the initiative to apply for the program. Well, it's that time again and we are actively recruiting applicants for the FLP Class of 2010-2011!! ... And we need your help!!!

Please help us identify local leaders and diverse community members to apply for the upcoming FLP class. Applications are currently available at our website - www.flagleadership.com. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 9, 2010 to recruitment chair Heidi Hansen. If you have any questions about the application, please feel free to contact Heidi at hhansen@azdailysun.com or Devonna McLaughlin at dmclaughlin@bothands.org.

We know you as alumni understand the benefits of the Flagstaff Leadership Program and we hope you will help us recruit a terrific and talented Class of 2011. Thank you so much for your help!

- Devonna McLaughlin, FLP President

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT-
Meet Cuyler Boughner- Class of 1990
Cuyler is still operating The GamePlan, and continues to love planning programs and presenting them to her clients. Since her FLP class participation 20 years ago, raising her two sons has, by choice, dominated her life.  She is now transitioning to a sometimes "empty nest", focusing on the outdoor activities that she loves, such as hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing, and spending time nurturing dogs, goats, and chickens.  Traveling to other parts of the world has also become a part of her life again. She now has more time to follow two of her other passions, reading and crocheting.  Her involvement with FLP continues; she and Tom are still doing the retreat in September and she is active with the alumni committee.

Nominate an FLP graduate for the next Alumni Spotlight. Submit information to newsletter@flagleadership.com.
