A glimpse into the life and thoughts of an artist in Hawai`i
|
|
Suddenly she appeared while traffic was at a standstill on Pensacola Street. For once I was glad to be stuck in place so I could grab my phone to use the camera app.
As traffic inched forward (it must have been rush hour), I snapped four shots before she passed from sight.
I drive that street once a week and had never seen her before, nor have I seen her again since then; the lighting must have been just right that day.
Later I struggled to find her in the photos taken through my windshield three lanes away from the tree.
There she is! It is my job to translate her onto the paper and transform her into a Tree Spirit.
These are the moments I relish! My newest Tree Spirit is titled, "Leaning into Life". The tree that inspired her is a bit straighter, but I chose to make her lean for the sake of composition.
What does it mean to Lean into Life?
It means going with the flow, being easy about life, and accepting what comes as the first step to creating the life we really want to live.
Change happens more easily if we can first be happy with what is and move forward from there. No, we don't have to "like what is", but it doesn't pay to argue with "reality".
Leaning into Life requires a level of trust that, on some level, all is well in our world and that all good things are conspiring to meet up with us. It is time to relax, even just a little bit, and know the "universe" has our back.
Sometimes we like to be in charge or we think we have to be in control of life. If you would like help remembering to "Lean into Life" buy your 11x14" print for $35 with FREE shipping:

"Everything we see hides another thing. There's a conflict between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present. It is human nature that we want to see what is hidden by what we see." ~René Magritte **********

Born in Port Washington, WI and educated at the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Patrice Federspiel first visited Hawai`i in January 2000. Within five months she had found a way to quit her job, sell her home, and move to Hawai`i to paint.
Previously an oil painter, Patrice learned the joys of watercolor upon her arrival in Honolulu in June 2000. She has been painting full time ever since. It is her intention to live her "Real Life" creatively, from the inside out; and to inspire others, through her paintings, art lessons, words, and example, to do the same.
Patrice is currently the president of the Hawai`i Watercolor Society.
"I paint with passion, live without regrets, and move joyfully forward through life." -Patrice Federspiel
