A glimpse into the life and thoughts of an artist

Working a big art fair is both exhilarating and exhausting - apparently I am still recovering. As a result you are being treated to a very short, intentionally sweet eZine this week. Enjoy!

Short, Sweet, and "Onolicious"

Original watercolor painting of a mermaid by Patrice A Federspiel

The Hawaiian word "ono" has many meanings including: tasty, delicious, as well as to savor or crave, to tempt the appetite.

Onolicious is the title of my latest mermaid ... actually, she titled herself. When asked what needed to be done before the Hale`iwa Arts Festival, I said, "Pono and Onolicious need to be framed."

That was the first time I had heard her name. I had never even thought of that name before, it came as a complete shock to me. And it fits.

Onolicious is a little more voluptuous than my previous mermaids and she was great fun to paint. If she swirls a path into your heart, you can order her here (FREE shipping):

    **********

I have been happily collecting art cartoons for the past ten years. A few weeks ago one of my students presented this cartoon to me; after reading my last eZine, Daphne just "knew" I would appreciate it:

art cartoon by Wykes The caption reads:
"My feeling is, let the rest of the world hunt and gather,
if they must."

I tried to find the author, Wykes, but there are several cartoonists by name and since I don't have a date for this cartoon, I can't quite place it. If you have any info, please share it with us.

Rather than share the whole cartoon collection at once, you will receive periodic giggles in the months to come.

If you run across any fun art cartoons, please send them my way. I like to laminate them for posterity, and will share them here. Whenever possible, I will add a link to the cartoonist's website.

If you are new to this eZine, you might be interested in reading more about me and my career in an interview published this week by Artist Career Training.

Artist Career Training has been an important factor in my success, so I highly recommend other artists check them out!

  **********

two hands squeezing blood from a turnipBorn in Port Washington, WI and educated at the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Patrice Federspiel first visited Hawai'i in January 2000. Within five months she had found a way to quit her job, sell her home, and move to Hawai'i to paint.

Previously an oil painter, Patrice learned the joys of watercolor upon her arrival in Honolulu in June 2000. She has been painting full time ever since. It is her intention to live her "Real Life" creatively, from the inside out; and to inspire others, through her paintings, art lessons, words, and example, to do the same.

"I paint with passion, live without regrets, and move joyfully forward through life." -Patrice Federspiel
