Windward Watercolor Workshop
with Patrice Federspiel

Join me on February 26 and 27, 2011 in Kailua for a fun-filled
2-day Hide-N-Seek Watercolor Workshop
If you are looking for new ways to have fun with watercolor while exploring color, shape, and texture, this workshop is for you. For $175.00 you will learn how to use texture and paint to create dynamic, vibrant paintings filled with light and texture.
This will be a very welcoming, cozy workshop, in a private, relaxed setting near the beach. Attendance is quite limited. All levels welcome. This is not a figurative workshop. This technique works great for ALL subject matter.
Please contact Patrice at 808-392-9104 or Rebecca Snow (assistant) at 808-286-5909 for more information.
PS if you need to order art supplies this weekend, Daniel Smith is offering FREE shipping through 11:59 pm Monday, January 24, 2011. Use the code: WEJANSHP
(No need to buy new supplies for this workshop, but my favorite Daniel Smith colors are: cobalt teal blue, new gamboge, mangenese blue hue, cobalt blue, and all the quinacridones.)

Are You Spinning Your Wheels? Sometimes I feel as though I am stuck in my very own spin cycle. No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to get traction and feel frustrated. Here's the thing, if I scan my list of daily accomplishments, I can clearly see that I am indeed getting things done. But am I making progress toward a goal? Or am I filling time with tasks of lesser importance?
Maybe I'm not stuck in the "spin cycle" so much as I am stuck in the "procrastination cycle" or perhaps the "avoidance cycle".
Maybe I am avoiding the things that are important to me and that I fear I will mess up; instead of just jumping in, doing them, and feeling empowered once they are finished.
Remember the old Nike slogan? Just Do It!
Sometimes that is easier said than done.
My friend Leslie recently forwarded an email from WritersStore.com to me. It detailed Jerry Seinfeld's method of staying focused and accomplishing his writing goals.
Jerry buys a year-at-a-glance calendar and on the days that he writes (his task), he crosses off the date.
The mere act of making that "X" and of keeping a continuous chain of "X's" going, keeps him writing.
Now you can get your own FREE "Don't Break the Chain Calendar" pdf file from the Writer's Store.
Print it out and do all you can do. It has helped me to keep doing those pesky, daily tasks (exercising, journaling, drawing) that are too easily postponed. ********** And the Winner Is... Congratulations Bobbee Garrett! Bobbee's winning entry: "Mostly I try to hang onto her dazzling tail as she leads me through watery wonders! She swims me and swirls me and dances in curls! As we giggle and wiggle, I can bubble my way up to catch her hand. We glide through the prisms of light in melodious flight. Waltzing our way with the pearly bubbles to the sun, we exultingly FLOAT on the waves of warmth and the glorious delight of weightless wonder!"
Bobbee won a 16x20 matted print of Release Your Inner Mermaid.
Thank you to all who entered the contest. The decision to pick the winner was a difficult one.
Not to worry, you can all have your very own Release Your Inner Mermaid Postcard.

Born in Port Washington, WI and educated at the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Patrice Federspiel first visited Hawai'i in January 2000. Within five months she had found a way to quit her job, sell her home, and move to Hawai'i to paint.
Previously an oil painter, Patrice learned the joys of watercolor upon her arrival in Honolulu in June 2000. She has been painting full time ever since. It is her intention to live her "Real Life" creatively, from the inside out; and to inspire others, through her paintings, art lessons, words, and example, to do the same.
"I paint with passion, live without regrets, and move joyfully forward through life." -Patrice Federspiel
