Are You Spinning Your Wheels?

Sometimes I feel as though I am stuck in my very own spin cycle. No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to get traction and feel frustrated.
 

Here's the thing, if I scan my list of daily accomplishments, I can clearly see that I am indeed getting things done.
 

But am I making progress toward a goal? Or am I filling time with tasks of lesser importance?

Maybe I'm not stuck in the "spin cycle" so much as I am stuck in the "procrastination cycle" or perhaps the "avoidance cycle".

Maybe I am avoiding the things that are important to me and that I fear I will mess up; instead of just jumping in, doing them, and feeling empowered once they are finished.

Remember the old Nike slogan? Just Do It!

Sometimes that is easier said than done.

My friend Leslie recently forwarded an email from WritersStore.com to me. It detailed Jerry Seinfeld's method of staying focused and accomplishing his writing goals.

Jerry buys a year-at-a-glance calendar and on the days that he writes (his task), he crosses off the date.

The mere act of making that "X" and of keeping a continuous chain of "X's" going, keeps him writing.

Print it out and do all you can do. It has helped me to keep doing those pesky, daily tasks (exercising, journaling, drawing) that are too easily postponed.
