| A glimpse into the life and thoughts of an artist |
|
Simmer TimeLife is cyclical. Why then should it surprise us when we find ourselves "recreating" our lives with each new day?
The cycles can be as short as an hour or as long as a lifetime. In between we have years made up of seasons, months, and days.
This is the season of thanksgiving, and for those in the Northern Hemisphere it is the season of late autumn, heading into winter.
Those of you in the Southern Hemisphere are moving toward summer. Please share your thoughts about this time of year with me in the weeks to come. I wonder if you feel the energy of springtime while the north feels the energy of autumn.
For many in the northern hemisphere, this is also the season of introspection. It is the time to go within, assess your life, your path, and yourself. Check in with your inner guidance to ensure you are living the life you want to live.
This is a time of living in the moment, of slowing down, even just a little bit. The earth is doing the same. The days are growing shorter, affording more time for darkness, for an internal germination, for thoughtfulness, and for gratitude to take hold of us and shake us to the core.
Taking the soup off the stove before the flavors have had time to blend is a mistake. Let us take this time of year to allow our personal selves some Simmer Time so that we might savor life even more in the future, and be ready to soar when the springtime energies arrive.

When you last saw Underwater Ballet, it looked like this: As you might imagine, the painting has progressed and now looks like this (image below). One of the neat surprises in this painting is the octopus that just appeared one day in the lower right corner of the painting. He was not planned, but while I was painting I saw an octopus lurking in the corner. Sure enough, he might not be dancing, but he definitely wanted to be included in the festivities. Octopus are very interesting creatures, one of the most intelligent of all invertebrates. Hiding from prediters is one of their defense mechanisms, so it's no surprise this one is in the corner. Underwater Ballet celebrates both friendship and sea life. Growing up near Lake Michigan, I have long appreciated the beauty of a large body of water. Now that I live in Hawai'i, on the shores of the South Pacific, I also appreciate the myriad life forms calling these waters home. Soon the Hawaiian waters will become the winter home to Humpback Whales migrating to our warm waters for the birthing process. I'll do my best to gather photos to share with you. Underwater Ballet is now available in open-edition matted laser prints. 8x10 laser print = $20 11x14 laser print = $35 Remember, they Ship FREE!

Born in Port Washington, WI and educated at the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Patrice Federspiel first visited Hawai'i in January 2000. Within five months she had found a way to quit her job, sell her home, and move to Hawai'i to paint.
Previously an oil painter, Patrice learned the joys of watercolor upon her arrival in Honolulu in June 2000. She has been painting full time ever since. It is her intention to live her "Real Life" creatively, from the inside out; and to inspire others, through her paintings, art lessons, words, and example, to do the same.
"I paint with passion, live without regrets, and move joyfully forward through life." -Patrice Federspiel
