There you will see five honu paintings (perhaps more).
Honu Kisses (left) will soon be joined by a painting I started this week.

Tentatively titled
Underwater Ballet, this new painting features a dolphin, a green sea turtle, and an endangered
Hawaiian Monk Seal all dancing together.

Here you can see the painting in process; the painting began with a rough sketch. In the photo above right, you can see the packing and crepe paper that were laid down on top of the drawing, along with bits of gauze and jute. The paint was applied on top of all of that and allowed to dry.
In this image on the left, the papers and strings have been removed and I have begun to paint around (negative paint) the subjects.
This is still very rough, I promise to finish it before the next newsletter so you can see the final result.
I have only seen a handful of the seals in the wild. One was swimming in
Kawela Bay, one was sunning itself along the shores of
Hanauma Bay, and another was sunning on the beach in
Waikiki.
These gray seals have a sweet-looking face, and always draw a cautious crowd wherever they surface. In 2010, it was estimated that only 1100 individuals remain. The Hawaiian Monk Seal is listed as critically endangered.

Because there are so few of these marvelous creatures, each one has a name and an identification number for tracking purposes.
There is a new mermaid in the Mermaid Portfolio too!
Sunset Mermaid is lounging on the beach and becoming part of the sunset.
