Greetings!

Wow!  March alreBarnard Griffin Wine Winery Washington Kim Gravenslund Tasting Roomady?  That means it's Washington Wine Month at many retailers and that they'll feature our wines.

It all leads up to the region's premier wine and food event, Taste Washington! in Seattle on March 28, 2010.  (Hope to see you there)  This is the twelfth consecutive year that Washington Wine Month will be celebrated in March.

We hope you'll look for our display above at your favorite wine shop and pick up Barnard Griffin Tulip and Reserve wines that suit your fancy.

March also means daylight savings time on March 14, but we think that really means Wine Savings Time at Barnard Griffin!

Speaking of Savings, It's BaaAack:  5 for $5 at 5pm:  New Day of the week and new dates with the first of 2010 taking place this Thursday, March 4th at 5pm.

It's a busy month.   On Tuesday, March 23rd, Elise Barnard Griffin will present a Winemaker's Dinner featuring our wines  at Ice Harbor at the Marina in Kennewick.

Check out our events section for details below.

Easter is April 4th this year so it's not too early to think about what you'll serve your guests and what wine pairings will go great with all that food.

One of the best choices for a wine that'll stand up to a wide variety of food pairings is our Rose of Sangiovese.  This years' win in the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE Wine Competition means that our Rose of Sangiovese has won Gold or Better in the largest American Wine Competition in the world for an unprecedented five years in a row.   But your special guests will be the true winners when they taste this delicious and refreshing wine.

We have just released our 2009 Riesling.  Check out the info below in our New Releases section.

Construction of our new Barrel Room is complete and awaiting our first bottling in this new facility.

As always, there's much going on at the winery; including a number of new releases that are sure to please.  So give us a call at 509-627-0266, check out our website or email us.  Or, stop by the Tasting Room to taste what's new and winning great acclaim.

So, be a Lamb this month and give us a call to order your favorite varietal.

From the Barnard Griffin family to yours, Cheers!

NEW RELEASES

2009 Riesling (Columbia Valley)

Release Date:  March 1st, 2010

7,130 cases made

Sensory Notes
This beautifully crafted Riesling greets the palate with tiers of ripe fruit flavors ranging from tangerine to crisp apple. Hints of pear, flint and orange blossom add intrigue and nuance to this elegant, impeccably balanced wine. Our 2007 Riesling was #2 on the Wine Enthusiast's top 100 Best Buys list of 2008 and in the Wine Spectator's December 31, 2009 issue, our 2008 Riesling scored 90 points and was included in their list of the Top 100 Wines of the World. Discover for yourself America's love affair with Barnard Griffin Riesling!

Vintage
For much of 2009 the accumulated heat units (our way of keeping score for sunshine) were spot on or a long term average. A warm early spring brought out good growth and a generally trouble free bloom and heavy set. Mid and late summer were very warm and promoted intense early ripeness and relatively high sugar for the climate. A somewhat compressed harvest commenced in the 1st week of September with early whites. Whites are full bodied, rich and flavorful..

 "Washington Wine Month"
3-Bottle Bundle
!

Save a bundle with our three special wines for Daylight Savings:
  • 2006 Reserve Misto Roso - Exotic and mysterious.  A complex combination of aromatic dried cherry, raspberry and oak spice notes with hints of licorice, leather and orange.  The bright, upbeat character showcases dried fruit and citrus flavors.  This is a blend of :40% barbera, 40% zinfandel, 20% cabernet.  Enjoy with foods that call for a wine with zingy, spicy attitude.
  • 2006 Reserve MerlotStrikes an elegant balance between lovely cherry/plum fruit and vanilla/cigar box, wood spice notes. Effusive plum, cherry and cranberry fruit leaps out of the glass and cascades through the palate, enlivened by juicy acidity. A discreet wood profile plays second fiddle to the amazing fruit found in this youthful merlot. Bottle age will certainly make this wine even better, but do you possess the necessary self restraint? Better buy some to lay down and some to drink now!
  • 2005 Reserve Cuvee de nos Amis - The base wines were from small lots destined for reserve and special wines. The blend, while dominated by merlot numerically, has a unique aroma which doesn't necessarily betray any of it's constituents. The scents are pleasantly earthy, woody, and show clove spice with some sort of science-fiction fruit; new and delicious! The flavors are broad, dense, and rich with a bright fruit flavor and smoky, full, soft tannins. This is from the 2005 vintage, rather a senior citizen in our cellar but well modified and ready to drink. Very limited, we bottled less then 100 cases of this very special blend!
All three 750ml bottles for only $110.00 with 1-Cent shipping!

Our voluptuous wines make it fun to spend extra time each day this spring with family and friends.

WINE of the MONTH:
2009 Rose of SangioveseBarnard Griffin Winery Rose of Sangiovese Bottle
(Columbia Valley)

Amazing.  Our 2009 Rose of Sangiovese won Gold in the 2010 SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE Wine Competition.

This is the fifth year in a row that Rob Griffin's take on this varietal has won GOLD or Better!

On January 8th, 2010, 63 professional wine experts within the media, restaurant and hospitality, education, winemaking and retail wine industries tasted and evaluated a world-record breaking 4,913 entries, a number that maintains the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition's status as the largest competition of American wines in the world.

If you're lucky enough to have some of our earlier vintages of this award winning nectar on hand, savor every drop because they were sold out long ago.

But we're now releasing the 2009 Rose.  And, if history is any indication, this will be yet another stand-out crowd pleaser; the perfect pairing for oh soOo many complex dishes you will serve in the years to come.

Rob's Notes:

Possessing a lovely, bright, garnet hue. Effusive strawberry, pomegranate, watermelon nose. Bright and dry on the attack, boasting long balanced flavors of strawberry and lime. Satisfying, lingering finish with hints of butter and minerals. This wine will pair with an amazing variety of foods.
