Courtyard Garden
|
Courtyard Garden
If you are visiting the John Jay Homestead and decide to view the Courtyard Garden located behind the house, you will be in for a delightful surprise. Always a pleasure to see, this garden provides a variety of dramatic colors, textures and heights. A vibrant show of African violets, in the shadier spots, adds a rich splash of color.
The most recent addition of mellow colored, beautifully shaped bricks around each of the four beds create definition and drama to the site. Their arching pattern style adds a feeling of elegance while framing the beds.
This garden is lovingly maintained by the Hopp Ground Garden Club of Bedford.

New paths in Herb Garden
|
Herb Garden
This past summer, work has been completed on the retaining wall, paths and plantings in the Herb Garden.
The herb garden was created in 1991 on the site of an historic cutting garden and greenhouse. The herb garden was designed by Page Dickey, a garden designer, writer, and member of the New York Unit of the Herb Society of America. The main paths radiating from the center divide the beds into four quadrants of herbal plants: medicinal, culinary, fragrant, and pest repellent. Members of the New York Unit of the Herb Society of America maintain the herb garden.
Be sure to also visit the Terrace Garden, maintained by the Rusticus Garden Club and the Sundial Garden, maintained by the Bedford Garden Club.
