Dear Friends,
Welcome to the first edition of Friends of John Jay Homestead's e-mail news. We're hoping this proves to be an efficient way to communicate with our most important group: people who care about the Homestead. We plan to send periodic updates about happenings at the site. We've also re-designed our website (www.johnjayhomestead.org) with regularly refreshed information providing historical facts and insights as well as the most up-to-date information about Homestead events. Make us your home page so you won't miss a thing.
Autumn is resplendent at the Homestead, and it's here for your enjoyment. The site's 62 acres are your public park, with gardens and grounds open every day until dusk. Come and enjoy!
Sincerely, Laurie Heffner Lewis President, Board of Trustees
P.S. E-communications are easier on both the Friends
budget and our planet. But our goal is to inform, not annoy. If you'd rather not receive future e-mail news updates, please click unsubscribe below.

CARRIAGE BARN UPDATE
Although construction on the building is not scheduled to begin until next year, work on the exhibits and presentations that will be the heart of the new Education and Visitors Center are moving quickly. Northern Light Productions of Boston is producing a ten-minute orientation video for viewing in the Carriage Barn theater. Video crews were at the Homestead during October filming inside the historic house and throughout the grounds telling the story of John Jay's accomplishments and his life on Bedford Farm.
Welcoming interiors spaces and interactive exhibits for the Carriage Barn are being devised by Design Minds, Inc. of Alexandria, VA. The main exhibit gallery will include a map/model of the Homestead property, computer kiosks with historical content, and period "news magazines" featuring articles relevant to John Jay's life. Younger children will be able to experience history by exploring "discovery boxes" full of period clothing, toys and household items. Around the corner in the horse stalls, visitors will experience exhibits and a sound/light show explaining the importance of horses to the Jay family and life on Bedford Farm. (To view all the floorplans and artistic renderings of the exhibits, Click here).

October 19th -- The Pavement Ends Road Race
The 5K Road Race, organized by Bedford Magazine, to benefit the Friends' Carriage Barn Project, the BRLA and the Westchester Land Trust took place on Sunday, October 19, both starting and finishing at the Homestead.
