Greetings!

2010 was the year of Trips for Kids Boulder, making friends and building support for our new endeavor in the Republic of.  Our collective focus, broad community support, and plain hard work yielded outstanding results: increasing our reach in Boulder and Denver to embrace 1,100 underserved young people in our positive, physically challenging and confidence building youth mountain biking program.

This off-season, TFK staff and our board huddled to think about how to top 2010, our best year ever.  After a 55% increase in youth participation, we decided expanding further was not a wise path to take.  The question of quality emerged. How can we improve the quality of the experience for the young people we serve?

We came to one simple conclusion: More Volunteers!

From speeding up the process of outfitting a group of anxious kids with helmets and bikes, to coaching newbies on the basics of bike handling, acting as a cheerleader and friend for a day on the trail, or kindly helping a student with a tricky earn-a-bike program repair, volunteers are the key ingredient to making our programs the best they can be.  (continued)

2011 is "The Year of the Volunteer!

This offseason we also realized we need to do a better job of engaging you, our amazing volunteer base, to make volunteering with TFK an easy, meaningful, and rewarding experience. We want to help convert your sincere intentions and enthusiastic interest in sharing cycling and the outdoors with young people into a towering peak of volunteer power.

Here's what we're doing at TFKD/B to improve volunteer engagement:

  • Developing the "Ride Leader" program to foster longer-term relationships with volunteers, providing special volunteer training and a sharp TFK jersey to those who make a pledge to help with five rides
  • Overhauling our information systems so we can better track volunteer interests, availability, and hours logged
  • Defining a process for following up with volunteer applicants with timely, informative communications

Take action and volunteer this year!

Message #2:"This is not a joke. Call me back."
