Up-coming Ride Schedule
Boys and Girls Club at Mt Falcon
Our busy summer ride season is just around the corner and we need your help to make each ride safe and fun for the novice riders we serve. Over the past year, we have noticed a slight drop in the number of volunteers who have joined us. We realize many rides occur M-F and, hey, most folks work when we're riding. If you have a flexible schedule and can ride on a Tuesday or can just help on a occasional Saturday, please consider signing up to volunteer.

I'm proud to report, year to date, we have completed 33 fun, safe rides with 284 underserved youngsters!

Watercourse Foods Logo
Last June, TFK supporters showed up at WaterCourse Foods in hoards to enjoy a tasty meal and raise funds for the cause.  We had such a strong '09 showing, they invited us back for a second helping this year.

Join me and fellow TFK supporters any time on June 7th at WaterCourse Foods and help TFK earn cash to keep the kids rolling this summer.

10-15% of sales benefit TFK.  The more we eat, the greater the donation. Have dessert!

Greetings!

As many of you may know, TFK Denver/Boulder is a locally supported and managed chapter of TFK International. The founding chapter in Marin County, CA has inspired and enabled Trips for Kids chapters to flourish in 67 communities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and now, Israel. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet with dedicated members from nine TFK chapters. I learned about how chapters from NYC, Charlotte, Durham, Tucson, Boon and other locations have creatively adapted the TFK core value - connecting kids with bicycles - to fit the needs of children in their various communities.

Charlotte and Durham have establish their own bike shops that help fund their cycling programs and provide fragile neighborhoods a source of affordable bicycles - maybe, the next frontier for TFKD? While TFK NYC trains students to ride in the city with school based cycling programs in addition to giving urban children a chance to escape the city for a fun, challenging day of mountain biking and a dose of fresh air.  I've returned from the TFK conference with renewed motivation and a head-full ideas to help TFKD/B achieve its mission.

Please join me in helping TFKD/B connect more than 1,000 children with our health and confidence building cycling based programs this year by joining a ride, attend an event or by signing up to take the 2-Mile Challenge.

Best,
Andrew Goodwillie
Executive Director, TFKD/B

Adult Supporter & Volunteer Ride: May 20 (or May 27th)
Volunteer and youth riderDo you have an interest in becoming a ride volunteer or certified ride leader but have questions about what's involved or just want to meet our staff and other TFK volunteers?

Join us on Thursday, May 20th at 6 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake Park for an evening adult volunteer/supporter ride and BBQ.  We're planning a quick volunteer orientation and then we'll head out for an hour-long lap of the park's underrated trail system.  All TFK volunteers and friends of the program are welcome to join the ride and post-pedaling festivities!

Wednesday's weather report calls for rain. If the trails are muddy on Thursday, we will reschedule this ride for Thursday, 5/27.  Please check the TFK website or contact us on Thursday to determine the status of this ride! Please RSVP, so we can plan for food and volunteer packets.

Burgers, grilled meats, and sides will be served post ride. We'll have water on hand but bring your own adult beverages, if you'd like. Meeting location: Pelican Point or Skunk Hollow Picnic Areas. We'll leave word where to find us at the guard shack.

We're looking for a few volunteers willing to grill and prep the meal while the ride posse works up an appetite.

Contact Andy Brannon with questions or to RSVP: abrannon@tripsforkidsdenver.org or 303-919-4259

Four State Senators Racing for TFK
Bailey Hundo State Senators

Four cycling CO State Sentors, led by Chris Romer, have established a new 100 mile race starting and ending in the town of Bailey, CO. Proceeds from the race will benefit Trips for Kids, the CO High School Racing League, and local trail building.  Andy Brannon and I will be competing in the "Hundo" along with ten other TFK supporters and notable pro racers Dave Weins and Travis Brown.

Race it: This inagral race is an invitation only, pledge based event (make a contribution supporting Andy B or AG here!) limited to 150 riders.  If you'd like to compete in the Hundo, apply for one of the remaining slots on the race site by today!: www.bailey100.com

Read about it: Tom Zirbel, a former international level road racer, has been coaching our group of students at Casey and has signed up to race and raising funds for Trips for Kids.  Tom is a talented writer and has blogged about plans to compete in the Hundo even though he hasn't ridden his clunker of a mountain bike for years.
Click here to read about how Tom is "Enjoying the Ride."

And a big thanks to Dieter and his team of Pearl Izumi folks, Spyder Matt, and Girl Love Bike.com for helping out so I can attempt this monster of a race!

Thanks to Cavan and Pete at Adrogen for setting up a fantastic looking website for the Hundo.

Help Trips for Kids National Win $50,000 by Taking theTwomile ClifBar 2-Mile Challenge!

Sign up for TFK's Red Team in Clif Bar's 2 Mile Challenge www.2milechallenge.com

As one of the 3 chosen teams TFK National will earn $25,000 BUT the team that signs up the most people and logs the most miles will win an additional $25.000.

TFK National is giving local chapters, like us, the opportunity to apply to receive a share of this donation to help purchase program related equipment.  Please join and help the TFK "Red Team" stay ahead of the other two competing organizations in the race to win the bonus $25,000!

Clif's Explanation of the Challenge:

40% of all urban travel in the US happens within 2 miles, and 90% of that is by car. Fight climate change simply by riding your bike. Sure, we appreciate that long ago the automobile changed the way the world works; but like anything, it's best in moderation.

So we, the employees of Clif Bar & Company, created a game to see how many car trips we could replace with a bike instead. Join the ride and take the 2 MILE CHALLENGE.
