Newborn Screening
Genetic Alliance released a Request for Applications for the 2013 Consumer Task Force on Newborn Screening and is currently accepting applications. Individuals with an interest in newborn screening, particularly parents of children who have been affected by newborn screening, are eligible to apply. The Consumer Task Force on Newborn Screening was created to engage a range of stakeholders with an interest in newborn screening policies, activities, and current events. Read more here.

Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita, Movies Focusing on Autism and Dyslexia
Luke, 25, is a young men with autism and has lived a sheltered life with his grandparents. But his world is turned upside down when his grandmother dies and he is forced to live with his dysfunctional relatives who have no patience for him or his senile grandfather, who they quickly force into a nursing home. Luke is left with his grandfather's final semi-coherent words: "Get a job. Find a girl. Live your own life. Be a man!" For the first time in his life, Luke has a mission. He is about to embark on a quest. Watch movie trailer here. The Big Picture, sponsored by the Fundamental Learning Center, follows two individuals with Dyslexia, and provides intimate observations by the mothers of young adults and children reveal a unique and often painful picture: in spite of high levels of intelligence and creativity, they struggle with things that the rest of the population does automatically.
