Families Together Staff Olympic Bound
He plots his next move, a move which will earn him a gold medal at the 2012 Paralympics in London. He visualizes the boccia ball as it edges past his competitor's ball. Austin Hanson has been working at Families Together for more than 15 years, and has been perfecting his game for more than 25 years! Austin has not let Cerebral Palsy deter his dreams to be a great boccia ball player. He has competed in and won national and international competitions; including, becoming a quarter finalist in the 2004 Paralympic Games.
Austin's family and friends are raising funds to help him get to London in August with TEAM USA. If you are interested in helping Austin, donations can be sent to:
Capital City Bank
2040 NW Topeka Blvd.

Please make checks payable to: Austin Hansen's US Boccia Fund
We are very proud of you, Austin!

Don't Forgets for Back to School
It is hard to believe that it is already time to start thinking about school, especially in this heat! Here are a few quick reminders on how to make the enrollment process painless:
1. The official start date for the school year is July 1. Make sure school physicals and medicine forms reflect the current school year.
2. Don't forget medicine forms and regimes need to be signed by the doctors. Be sure to include over the counter pain/fever reducers and topical ointments like sunscreen and diaper rash cream and special food/diet and liquid intake!
3. This is the perfect time to update your CARING NOTEBOOK! Watch for the CARING APP coming this fall from Families Together!
Contact your local Families Together office for help with Individual Health Care Plans, 504 or IEP's, or for a CARING NOTEBOOK.

What Siblings Would Like
Parents and Service Providers to Know
In the United States, there are over six million people who have special health, developmental, and mental health concerns. Most of these people have typically-developing brothers and sisters. These brothers and sisters will be in the lives of family members with special needs longer than anyone. Brothers and sisters will be there after parents are gone and special education services are a distant memory. If they are provided with support and information, they can help their sibs live dignified lives from childhood to their senior years. READ MORE HERE |
